^ Yes I caught that Radio 4 thing with Stephen on Saturday morning. He said he liked the version of BM done for the Wonder Woman 84 trailer.

On BBC News the other night, being interviewed about the sacking of Frank Lampard at Chelsea, in his room at home Pat Nevin had a selection of framed record sleeves and a frame with the image from the cover of Procession.

An interesting and in-depth article especially if you are of Asian-American background

How Can I Explain: An Incomplete Oral History of Asian Americans and Our Ineffable Love of New Wave

https://themuse.jezebel.com/how-...tory-of-asian-1845911631

Quote:
Jim Lee: When I was in college, we used to call “Bizarre Love Triangle” the Korean American national anthem, because like there was no other song that got Koreans on the dance floor like New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle.”

Oliver Wang: I don’t actually know why we gravitated toward “Bizarre Love Triangle” as opposed to any other New Order song as opposed to any other big New Wave hit from the same era. That’s just where we landed. And it’s an inside joke. It’s a generational inside joke. In the ’90s when I was in college, like anyone I talked to who was Asian American, we were all in on it. We all understood it.

Hua Hsu: Everyone knew it, everyone loved it. And we didn’t really think about why that was, nor do we know now. It was just cool to have this little shared secret. That was the song everyone would wait for at a school dance.

Cynthia Leung: I always think of the dance floor as a metaphor because that’s when you see when people go deep into whatever song is playing. You don’t need to know the title, but they all have this collective reaction where you’re like, everyone knows this song. I think even to this day when people hear,
especially New Order, they all bond.

At our senior prom, “Bizarre Love Triangle” came on randomly and the entire dance floor cleared. And then it was Ben Cho, Eileen Tsai, and me and my prom date, and we’re just going all out.

I gave this a mention in Music For Pleasure because it features a Killing Division track. Exclusive!
But does anyone look at Music For Pleasure?

Ah. I missed that.

I find myself forgetting to check there.

I haven't had chance to listen to this yet. Was there any mention that these Killing Division tracks will be released on CD?
I haven't ordered the vinyl, as I'm holding on for CD (much like I am with 'Be A Rebel').

Dunno if this one got any mention here, but there's a 2018 BBC documentary on the story of dance(house?) music, featuring both Steve & Barney in a recent interview, plus what I suppose are archive interviews with Dave Haslam, Tony Wilson and Ben Kelly on episode 2:

Lots of talents also interviewed... Moby, Frankie Knuckles, Kevorkian, Oakenfold, Steve 'Silk' Hurley, Derrick May, Carl Cox, Kevin Saunderson, Marshall Rogers, 808 State, S-Express etc. Worth it

Yes I rember Fotz and I discussing it here when it was first shown on BBC4.
I guess people without access to BBC4/iPlayer wouldn't have been able to see it. The first 2 episodes were enjoyable. The third one, not so much.
It's good that it's on YouTube, but I wonder if the BBC know?..

May have been posted on this thread before but True Faith in that Netflix series Don’t F***k With Cats. The Internet killer Luca Mongatta used this song as soundtrack to a video of him killing that was posted on the Internet.By far the most unsettling and depressing use of a NO song.Later speculated in the documentary that the killer was paying homage (and a clue to sleuths) to Christian Bale in American Psycho as the song is used at the start of that film.

Creation Stories about Alan McGee and the rise & fall of Creation Records.

A Joy Division mention when fictitious Jim Reid of the JAMC describes JD as awful.
This actually happened as per this clip at 1.50; "Joy Division were shit".
(In truth, Jim had been told before the interview that JD were the interviewer's favourite band. Reid actually liked JD but wanted to f&ck with the interviewer.)

Later on in the film McGee goes to Manchester where he gets into rave/house/dance. We see him in an unnamed club with pillars painted yellow & black etc. Clearly meant to be the Hac.

Considering Irvine Welsh wrote it, Ewan Bremner plays McGee and Danny Boyle was a producer, it's bound to be compared to Trainspotting.
It's very low budget though. It started ok but I got bit bored in the second half, and was actually frustrated with how short some of the clips were of some of the best Creation tracks. Meanwhile D-Ream's Things Can Only Get Better (at New Labour conference) got lots of exposure: "It's shite" says Bremner/McGee. True, so why didn't you give us more Ride, MBV, Primal Scream etc?

EDIT: Oh and Bremner says "Be A Rebel" at the end of the film, which you can hear in the trailer. A coincidence I'm sure.

Bizarrely ( pardon the pun), Bizarre Love Triangle on a local radio station that was on at work the other day. Never expected to hear that on local radio. Even more bizarre was that it sounded like the Stephen Hague mix . Certainly wasn’t the Pettibone 7” or the album version. Sounded like that Hague mix that was on the Select magazine cassette. What else could it have been if it wasn’t the album version or the Pettibone 7” ??...

It could also be the 94 version that was on The Best Of.

That’s very similar and was also done by Stephen Hague. I think the only major difference between that and the standard Married To The Mob / Select Tape mix, is that it misses out the do-do-dos.

The ‘94 version (being on a Best Of) is also more readily available than the standard Hague mix (especially to local radio).

Just a thought.
Did you spot the do-do-dos?

^ Ah , of course, it was probably the version on Best Of. Would make more sense a local radio playing that rather than the more obscure Select mag version. There were no do do do’s so it had to have been the Best Of version.

At half time on the BBC coverage of the Chelsea Man City semi final earlier there was interview with Peter Shilton, looking ahead to tomorrow’s game Leicester v Southampton. Old footage of Leicester’s previous FA cup journies in the 60s, 70s and 80s accompanied by songs around in the corresponding time periods . Thieves Like Us soundtracked the 80s section
