Wasn't there supposed to be a CD single release for "Be A Rebel"?

Yeah, according to the official release: Maybe they gave it up. CD singles have been in decline for years now

I was always a CD Single fan - even during the ridiculous Republic era but think I'm done with the format now.
I would've bought the BaR CDS had it come out at the start or shortly thereafter but I've now downloaded the Single/Edit and 1st bunch of remixes from B&S.
I've passed on the External Remixes Part1of2 and prob won't bother with Remixes 2of2 or a CDS either as this release has now gone on far too long enough by half.

I'm not really fussed about CDs any more and I used to be a big advocate as I'm sure a few on here still are.
My take is the vinyl is great because you get a large copy of the artwork, which you can hang on your wall if you want. Mute vinyl also tends to come with a code to download a digital copy in Hi-res which is often better quality than the CD itself. When I got the recent ACR album bundle I simply redeemed the 24-bit files from the vinyl code which meant I didn't even need to unseal the CD (it remains sealed, on a shelf but was a part of the bundle).
CD seems to be starting to become pretty redundant and I guess will continue to do so.
Pet Shop Boys are still pretty loyal to it "as a medium" given their ascendancy was during the CD boom of the 80s. The last CD single I bought was a PSB one ("I Don't Wanna" I think).
Still waiting for "Part 2" of the remixes, which I assume is coming to digital services soon-ish?

The single was intended to promote the Unity Tour. With the tour dates pushed to later this year, Mute is probably holding the CD single(s) back, hoping to get a little promotion bump for the gigs when they finally happen.

To be honest, holding back a CD single of remixes long available on both digital services and a 12" would be an unusual move. I think it is more likely they intended to put out a CD with the 12" and digital but pandemic logistics caused it to fall by the wayside. Slinging up Hi-res files on the usual services and a stream to Spotify is probably cheaper than firing up a CD plant for a niche number of orders. Vinyl is obviously in a league of its own and has been for 10 or so years now "Premium Limited Coloured Edition" product marketing and all that. Could be wrong, obviously but that's what it seems like to me. If you're right, it will be interesting to see if Mute USA issue any CDs. I don't believe they did for the Music Complete-era singles, they were all EU only (CD I mean, I know the US got a green Restless 12"). I'd quite like to see the second set of BAR remixes especially if Reeder's is in there. He has a solid track record with remixing Barney-related stuff, including Bad Lieutenant over a decade ago.

Is the E.E.R. live album being released via Mute or Warners?
If Mute, perhaps they're tying it into that.

Confusing much? Interesting as NOMC15 was originally self-released through Bandcamp/Live Here Now and then came out on Mute in the end (STUMM420). New Order + Liam Gillick: So It Goes.. also came out on Mute (STUMM450). Wonder why E.E.R. has reverted to Warners? I'm wondering if this was the reason it was delayed so long... It's not being promoted on Mute's official site.

I zoomed in on the product shot of the 2CD for sale on the New Order Store. The outer ring of text on the disc features "LC14666" which is Warner Music so mystery solved. Unusual though. All previous releases, certainly anything featuring Tom Chapman in the line-up has come out on Mute. Warners is traditionally reserved for the Hooky era stuff. Interesting.

Over on the E.E.R. thread there was a link posted at the time of the announcement. It had links to Amazon for lots of different countries.
On each Amazon page it lists the label as Rhino or Warners (in one case both names). Rhino seems to be the most common.
But yes, considering Mute is their current label it's a surprise that they've "gone back" to the old one.
Are Rhino better at fancy packaging??

Since Rhino didn't put out So It Goes, maybe they asked for a live album, too. Could be a contractual thing for their working relationship. Could just be a gesture of goodwill on New Order's part. I'm sure the band retain all the rights and master recordings at this point, and are just licensing them to Rhino for manufacture and distribution.

The band own their live recordings so they can be licensed to whoever.
The Be A Rebel stuff will be announced soon. Fear not.

Ok great, looking forward to the remixes pt 2. Had to chuckle recently when I noticed a few commenters on YouTube have Bernard down as singing “it’s a funny affair” instead of “ it’s a family affair” Edited by user 27 February 2021 01:58:52(UTC)

Reminds me of how some of us were all angsty over the cheese factor of "being a rebel" and how aligned we were with young Barney. Now old Barney's lyrics have taken a more, as he describes them, "observational" turn. Also - I'm amazed interviews like this were airing in the UK during that period. With no internet and only 8-week old snippets from NME/MM to go by, NO's renowned "anonymous mystique" possibly seemed more pronounced to us. I mean, he was out there literally disclosing how many pairs of socks he wears a day. ;) (Why so many...?)
