Wonder Woman 1984

Not sure if it's an existing remix, or created specifically for the trailer to match the screen action.

There's a discussion going about it in the spotting thread, but I think it deserves a thread of its own.

Music for trailers is often just that - created solely for the trailer. In Hollywood they call it "trailerizing" (how original).

Some of the best ones in recent years were down by a company called Hi-Finesse (see how they reworked Fleetwood Mac's The Chain for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2), but a friend in the industry said they didn't do the WW84 trailer. He's asking around for me.

This wasn't done by New Order, and is not likely to be released. The standard version of Blue Monday will appear on the soundtrack.

OMG... never realized that's what that thread was for. I thought it was a papparazi type thread. "Bernard was spotted leaving XYZ studios, possibly collaborating with ...." Or forum members posting selfies with members of the band at starbucks or something.

Not keen on this version to tell the truth, yes its Blue Monday but it just sounds too puffed up and pompous for my liking but I suppose using the original wouldn't have got a lot of people too excited.

I agree. I appreciate the drama it brings to the trailer but would never buy it and listen to it for enjoyment.

I have to disagree - I think it's amazing! It *makes* the trailer. There are so many comments on YouTube asking about the music - I love the exposure this is giving the band. Over 12 million views in one day.

No, it's by German composer/producer Sebastian Böhm.

I like it.

Obviously not as much as the original, but still, a very interesting interpretation.
It gets kind of epic at around the 2m45s mark.

I think it works really well with the trailer, which looks pretty great too. Having been a comic book fan for most of my life (DC especially), I'd definitely be going to see it anyway, but the trailer (with it's cracking soundtrack) has me even more keen.

Plus, Gal Gadot is just about as close to a goddess as I can imagine...

Yep - got to be a good thing.

I was going to post some more interviews on my Channel, but YouTube is getting so many Wonder Woman uploads, I think they'll get lost in the forest.
I'll wait until things calm down a bit.

Saw the film at the weekend and...they don't use Blue Monday in it (not sure why they decided on making a Wonder Woman film set in 1984 apart from an excuse to dress Chris Pine in some shite 80s fashions to be honest: the film was OK but far too long)

i couldn't stand that mix of the song anyways, so i didn't miss it. the first WW film is better. this film's pacing was wonky, and needed more action scenes as well.

Loved the BM trailer, probably more than the film itself - which I watched last night.
Congrats to those involved with the original trailer; they made a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
I really enjoyed the first WW film in 2017 so I had high expectations for this one.
It was watchable enough, but all that "wishing" stuff felt like it had been written by an 8 year old.
Incidentally the first film gets its network tv debut in the UK on Tuesday (29th) at 7.30pm, for those who haven't seen it.

Just watched the 2017 film tonight. Enjoyed it . I’m not a big fan of all these DC films but I liked this one. Pretty entertaining and I certainly took a big shine to Gal Gadot, she’s great.

Watched the trailer for the new one and at first thought it looked like Mackenzie Davis also stars in it but looking up the cast it’s not her but maybe Christen Wig. They look similar in parts of the trailer.

It’s only available on HBO Max or something right now? Haven’t got that so don’t when I’ll get to see the lovely Gal Gadot again in this one.

☝️ Yes it's Kristen Wiig. I don't think think they used her comedic gifts as well as they could have.

Once these films end up on official sites - whether it's Amazon Prime, Disney Plus or HBO max, they end up "out there" in the digital realm.
All you have to do is put an unofficial android app on to an android device (tablet, phone or Firestick) and use those apps to stream whatever you want. For free.
If i can do it, anyone can.
If you're worried about putting an unoffical app on a phone/tablet just get a Firestick from Amazon/argos for 20 quid. What's the worst that can happen?
Then just put apps on there, like Cinema HD, Bee Tv and Cyberflix. Then stream whatever the f**k you want, whenever you want.

^ Oh ok, thanks. Will try one of those options or download from Soulseek if I can find it on there.

Think I got Kristen Wiig and Mackenzie Davis mixed up because of the spectacles and 80s look. Mackenzie Davis had a similar look in San Junipero.

Found and downloaded a great DVD quality rip from Soulseek.Think i made the mistake though of watching it when i was tired and sleep deprived as my attention drifted at times.Or maybe the film is too long.

I couldn't engage totally with the Max Lord character.I mean, i know he's the baddy but baddies still have to be engaging.I did lose the story a bit but like i said i was a bit sleep deprived.Still, the end scenes were pretty big and full on.

Nice use of Frankie's Welcome To The Pleasuredome as Barbara and then Diana Prince arrive at the event do.

I don't think you're alone in thinking that the film was too long. And most reviews (certainly from fans) have been pretty critical, with most mentioning that there are very few action scenes, which isn't really ideal for a superhero flick. So I don't think it's necessarily your fault for drifting off; that appears common to quite a few people who've seen it.

It's a shame as I had high hopes for the film a few months back, liking Gal Gadot (hubba-hubba!!!), the character and the time period.
The first film was pretty reasonable too (although I think it was let down by being a bit 'CGI' at the end).

Talking of films being too long, I think this is a common problem with films these days, especially the Marvel ones. They seem to want each film to be 2.5 hours long.
I kind of blame Christopher Nolan for this with his Dark Knight Trilogy. Not that his films felt too long to me. They seemed about right.
It's just that, as they were so successful both critically and commercially, it seems that every director feels a superhero movie should be about that length (or thereabouts).

I just remember all the great action films of the 1980s / early 1990s being less than 2 hours long:

Predator (1h47m)
Terminator (1h47m)
Total Recall (1h53m)
etc.

Everything seems to go on at least 30 mins longer than it needs to.

Rant over...

How do you set a movie in 1984 - arguably the greatest year in pop music - and NOT use '80s music?

WW84 is hot garbage: far too long, two villains, super-weak script, no action, hammy acting, NO FUN.

Well they did use one bit of 80s music- Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s ‘ Welcome To The Pleasuredome’ in the gala do event evening scene but yeah I get your point.

And yeah the acting was hammy . And the pacing was weird. File under - great trailer, not so great film.

I've heard the special effects are woeful also, which is frankly shocking in this day and age.

I don't like to be influenced too much by reviews but, considering it's difficult to see the picture over here, I've had to resort to them.

These two reviews are the ones I've watched:

(Incidentally, the reviews from the first guy (The Critical Drinker) are generally excellent. He has an amusing style to him and is very good at pointing out exactly what is wrong with the story structure etc. (he's actually a best-selling author, so knows his stuff). It's well worth checking out some of his other videos.)

Getting back to WW84, I'm really disappointed with the negative reviews. I had high hopes after the trailer.
I guess I'll catch it at some point, but I'm in no real rush. :-(

They only used one bit of 80s music? Really? That's incredible (not to say completely stupid also). I just assumed that, although Blue Monday wasn't in there, there were a number of other classics being used throughout.

You have to ask the question, why bother setting the film in that time period? Half the reason anyone wants to set a film or TV series in a particular decade is so they can use contemporary music.
Also, nothing establishes a time frame with the audience better than some well placed music of the era. Something to make that connection.

Ask anyone about the 1980s, amongst the first things they'll mention are flashy clothing, hedonism on a Dionysian scale and a bloody brilliant soundtrack.

Yeah, a 2 1/2 movie set in 1984 and the only pop music was Welcome To The Pleasuredome. The rest was drowning in a boring, predictable Hans Zimmer score.

Apart from the opening scene in a mall, and the '80s fashions "Steve" tries on, it could have been set in any other decade.
