I did see something about it just for the first time yesterday but I mistakenly thought it would be one of those Track-by-track ones that did WFTSC and Music Complete a month or two back and which I didn’t find half as good as Tim’s listening parties. So I’m pleased to discover it’s going to be Tim hosting and not the lot who did the other ones ( are those ones a record company or something listening thing?)

Total nitpick, but with so many high resolution images available online, why do people grab the first lo-res shitty image they see and post it? Especially for something as iconic as this album cover?

for me, Technique was their last great album. they wrote a lot of good songs after, but none of the later material can compare with Technique, or anything before.

Enjoyed that. Some fantastic previously unseen pics, some of which appear to be stills from video (G-Mex 88 amongst others) and Gillian posted some great old pics from a New Order gig at The Hacienda though i don't think she said which one (maybe the July 83 gig?).Great info as usual from Steve. There's a version of Vanishing Point with completely different lyrics!

^ Yep seconded. I think these listening parties kinda make you listen with fresh ears. Perhaps because you feel like you're part of something bigger. Perhaps because you're reading about the tracks by those who made them at the same time.
Anyway here's the exact tweet from Steve. If we don't get the alternative lyrics version, there'll be trouble! Steve must be confident that we will or he wouldn't have publicly suggested it for the box set.

There was a post on here recently about it, all the lyrics were quoted. I can't find it now though.

Also, those lyrics were shown on photos of the band's old Apple Mac someone won in a competition a long time ago. I think they were on the old World In Motion site, also can't find any of that now.

these listening parties are very entertaining. probably not going to happen, but i wish Tim could get Barney and Johnny to do a listening party for the first Electronic album. although if Johnny was ever going to do one, he'd probably do one for The Smiths first.

Thanks for this. Very cool.
I'd be frightened to death each time I fired it up, just in case it broke.

The working titles listed in one of the screenshots line up with other lists of the Technique-era demos (mainly tape inlays uploaded to MDMA - https://www.mdmarchive.c.../new%20order%20technique).

Just in case anyone was interested and didn't know, the working titles listed relate to the following tracks:

8 Track No. 1 - Guilty Partner
8 Track No. 2 - All The Way
The Acoustic One - Love Less
The Balearic One - Fine Time
The Disco One - Mr. Disco
The Funky One - ? (Round & Round, presumably, based on a process of elimination)
The Housey One - Vanishing Point (I'm guessing that the 'New Housey One' is just the LP version lyrics)
The VU One - Run

I think that's right, anyway.

Other tracks from the period include:

Gillian's Acoustic One - Dream Attack
The Dreamy One - Don't Do It
Best & Marsh (presumably didn't have a working title due to it being 'commissioned work' for the TV show in question)
The MT One - MTO
The Happy One (it appears that the band just carried on using the working title, rather than rename it)

It looks like Dream Attack had been given a proper name at this point, so the working title wasn't used. I'm also presuming that the other four four of these aren't in the screenshot due to them being instrumentals a(the screenshot is of a 'lyrics folder').

Would love to hear the alternate Vanishing Point. If anyone has it lurking on a hard-drive / box of tapes somewhere, please let me know.

Definitely in the vaults, along with unreleased versions of Don't Do It, Happy One, MTO and something called Salvation (not the same as Salvation Theme). We'll have to wait for a little while...

Hmmm. I've now come across reference to this track having a working title of 'The Square One'. That does seem to fit with all the other working titles, so seems possible.

Yep. That track is definitely different from Salvation Theme. There are another couple of rudimentary ideas from the Technique sessions too. Here's hoping we get to see all of these included in the future.

I also read somewhere of a rumoured single edit of 'Vanishing Point', and possibly a Utah Saints remix, both of which were intended for release at the time of 'The Rest Of' but never saw the light of day. Be great to hear one or both of those (if they do indeed exist).

There are US edits by Chris Lord-Alge of four Technique tracks. VP was one of them.

I’m guessing that these are them:

I have the R&R one, I think, on a US Promo CD.

Be good to get a better video of the G-Mex 88 gig than the old shaky crowd cam version.
