And I'll say the same for this little 2019 gem. Moon Duo: Stars Are The Light. The title track of their current LP

Back in 2003 Richard X put out a couple of hit singles, one of which I really liked: Finest Dreams feat Kelis - nice sampling of the Human League. I guess his apparent penchant for 80s synthpop was why he was later deemed suitable as a remixer of BLT and Jetstream. In 2004 he further demonstrated his love of synthpop on his Back To Mine mix comp featuring the likes of Animotion and Pet Shelley's Homosapien. I remember listening to the CD on a listening post in Tower Records, and when I got to the Heaven 17 track, it felt simultaneously old and new, with it's bubbling bassline conjured from a Roland 303 for its original pre- acid house purpose, and its overall super slick production. The 12" version (as featured on the comp) pops up in my YouTube suggestions every so often, and I can never resist hitting play. Let Me Go 12"

The title track of their current LP I gave that Heaven 17 remix a spin.Yeah i always liked that one of theirs and liked the bubbling bass on the remix.Let Me Go and Come Live With Me were always more to my liking than their big hit Temptation. Not sure about that Moon Duo track you posted. I gave Angel Olsen's album a few listens but disappointingly i couldn't get into it, or at least not yet.Love the What It Is song but i'm struggling with the album.I mean, i get that it's good but that doesn't mean it's my thing.Always frustrating when that happens.I've given a few plays to some of the other albums of the year like Michael Kiwanuka and Little Simz.Getting into Kiwanuka's album and Little Simz' stuff is pretty good bu then i've heard 3 or 4 Little Simz's stuff over the pat year and have become quite familiar with it so it's easier to get into the rest.I've read Weyes Blood's album is startling too but not heard any of it yet, well as far as i know. Also FKA Twigs, i've heard a couple of songs of her latest but is it my thing despite it being inventive and interesting? Don't know but her performance on Jools was a bit startling. She knows what's she's doing with that sword, or at least i hope so

I'm not sure wbout the new stuff either. Bought her debut album in 2014 and saw her at London's Roundhouse in 2015. The gig was very well choreographed and she sings well live, but it was very much a case of standing and watching her "performance art", rather than getting stuck in. At the end she decided to introduce all her dancers individually and the funky beat during that bit was the only time the crowd really danced/bounced. From the first album I particlarly liked Video Girl (great video!) ...and several tracks that came out at the time but weren't actually on the album: Water Me, tw-ache and this thing below, recorded live in a Mexican back garden. Her voice is just gorgeous here: Hide

Ah ok, yes i think i can imagine her gigs being a bit like that.Maybe not for me then.

Been listening to Michael Kiwanuka's album the last couple of weeks, in the car and shit. It's bloody good if you give it time.Cracking voice he's got.A real quality and uplifting album. Hero somehow reminds me of Tears by Stone Roses.

Did anyone watch the new adaptation of Worzel Gummidge over Christmas? It's kind of aimed for kids but i thought it was absolutely brilliant.Mackenzie Crook did a fantastic job with it.This music by The Unthanks from episode 1 captured something wonderful, deeper, mysterious and folky.

On a lighter note.Well, yeah, Human League were often a bit dodgy we know but i always had a soft spot for this mid 90s comeback single and in particular this TOTP appearance. Just liked the way they're all lined up at the front in a row.Kind of a good celebratory, party vibe about the whole thing that you can't help but warm to.And Joanne is just... well..WOW, white hot in this.Hell, even Phil looks handsome as fuck in this and i'm not even gay! (not even gay â„¢)

End scene of episode 2 of Twin Peaks:The Return. At the Bang Bang Bar (The Roadhouse ? i'm still not clear on the actual name) , The Chromatics perform this song, Shadow.Love the song and the scene but this isn't the actual scene but does include some of the shots, rather a great montage of clips from the fabulous series.Best tv series ever.RIP Laura Palmer.

This week's Saturday night Human League spot. One Man In My Heart featuring Susan on lead vox.A first for the League and Susan i think? This was the only one with her on lead, not Phil? Again, a dodgy League lyric , "one man in my bed", oh Susan, i should bloody hope so! What on earth would and should we think of you if there was more than one??!! Phil on his big chunky soundbox taking a slight back seat to proceedings.Susan, take it away..

This week we look at Human League's 1984 hit The Lebanon.Well i say hit, but was it that big a hit? Probably top 10 if i recall and a fairish first comeback single after the mega selling Dare album from a year or two before.Quite cool bass intro but again, a dodgy League lyric slightly marrs proceedings; "and where there used to be some shops", anyone? Video i think was filmed at Brixton Academy.Peak Joanne here, though she had many peaks.Very chic and stylish in all black suit with big shoulders .Peak Sheffield suburban gone famous. She steals the stage with her cool, confident sexiness and beautiful eyes from the trying too hard Susan.

Human League - Heart Like A Wheel on TOTP in 1990.Joanne white hot in leather mini skirt and thigh high boots. Oh i've just remembered, i saw Phil Oakey at Kraftwerk's gig at Sheffield City Hall in summer 1991.As friend and i were walking out after the end of the gig i glanced beside us and there was Phil!
