Lothar and the Hand People? Now you're getting obscure! And speaking of sampling, I only know "Lothar..." because the Chemical Brothers sampled his/their track "It Comes On Anyway" in: It Doesn't Matter

The theremin had been around since the late 50's- The film forbidden planet soundtrack is all theremin. Lothar used one and Eno early on had a similar derivitive device, with Roxy Music
.Moogs, and mellotrons ruled prog rock and there was a choir organ built by a guy from amon duul 2 who let Florian Fricke of Popol Vuh use it for Aguirre., and then Florian sold his moog to Klaus Schultz of Tangerine Dream
.Popol Vuh''s first album Affenstunde and a couple more have that moog #3
.Mickey Dolenz of Monkey fame bought Moog #2, heard on Head , and the Doors used it on their 2nd.
Beatles "Because "has that Moog i believe
And then aling came Steve (PT )Wilson has another million or so hours of music . BUT
JD and NO are of a parallel world of even more millions of hours of phenomenal songs than can be enjoyed forever

Jon Hopkins at the 6Music festival last night. Was watching live but frustratingly the live stream was cut off after half an hour "at the artist's request" .Why didn't he want the whole set to be shown? I was really getting into it.His latest album Singularity has some fantastic stuff on it.Wish i could see him on the Friday night at Bluedot at Jodrell in July but i've only got a ticket for the Sunday.

Tonight's selection was Bowie Live at Nassau Colosseum and some New Order; Depeche Mode and March Violets earlier in the day. Yesterday was Lush's Gala album.

Back in early 2018 Stephen Morris did a "synth hero show" for NTS Radio which I mentioned in Digital Republic at the time. Still available HERE.

Now Mute's Daniel Miller has done a Synth Hero Mix too.

Featuring Gerry & The Holgrams, Kraftwerk, DEVO, Laurie Anderson, and a track that was also in Steve's mix: Los Niños Del Parque by Liaisons Dangereuses - a track which used to pop up in early house music sets in the US. Comments from Miller in the expanded description below the soundcloud.

Haven't bothered with the second series yet. I got hooked on the first series pretty quickly - Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh both drew me in, and the music from David Holmes (under the name Unloved) was decent too. But by the end I felt a bit short changed. Everyone was a bit too cosy with each other. Not sure if the second series will be worth it.

I actually came here to post a tune. In light of the 40th anniversary of Unknown Pleasures, a cover version of the opening track. I really like this but I'm sure many others won't. Vocalist sounds a bit like the guy from Crash Test Dummies. Looks like it came out in 2014, so not particularly new.

I've watched all the second series. Not sure it's as great as the first.I became a bit indifferent to all the killing quite soon in.Jodie Comer is still great though and some of her lines are still hilarious.First series was fabulous but i think the novelty has worn off a bit.

I heard some dance cover of Transmission the other week.Well i say cover but it was basically a generic dance track with a vocal just repeating the "dance, dance, dance to the radio" bit.

Watched BBC2's A-Z of Glastonbury tonight.Looking back on 25 years of the festival being televised. It was actually quite tiresome at times (the programme, not the festival).Though the festival has become quite tiresome these days.I mean, compare and contrast;look at footage from the 90s, the whole crowd of thousands were jumping up and down and going apeshit. In the 2000teens everyone just lamely waves the phone lights from side to side.

I have an ongoing argument with my brother that when the festival was first televised it was on Channel 4 in 1994 (and maybe 1995 also) but he won't have it and insists its always been televised on BBC.

We went to the 1994 and 1995 Glastonbury. One of the great and unsolved mysteries of my life is how i have no memory of seeing Pulp play the Pyramid Stage on the Saturday night in 1995.It's one of the most famous Glastonbury shows but i have no recollection. But one year i was there, can't recall if it was 94 or 95, i spent ages in a dance tent though i can't recall what bands or DJs played. All i can remember is staggering out of the big tent and tripping over some guide ropes and lying on the grass for an age.Mybe Pulp played while i lay on the grass outside the dance tent after my accident with the guide ropes. I'm sure i recall seeing Orbital play the Pyramid Stage in 1995.What i did see for sure though was their 1994 appearance on the Other Stage. We got high on poppers haha.Saw St Etienne play one Saturday afternoon one year too.Oh i could go on all night about what i can and can't remember about Glastonbury.

Anyway, haven't been since 1995 (tried but failed to get tickets for 2005).To pick a random clip that i remember from the last 25 years this one always seems to spring to mind.Goldfrapp doing Caravan Girl in i think 2008.

I guess this is old news. If you google: "Joy Division New Dawn Fades Black Sabbath War Pigs", you get more than one result.

Around 6.33 and 7.16 you can hear guitar similarities:

Well, i've just bit the bullet and bought a ticket to see Doves at Inner City Live in Perry Park , Birmingham this coming Sunday 28th July. Was looking the festival up out of idle interest and when i saw the festival ends at 9.30pm Sunday night i thought, ah i can still catch the last train home if it finishes at that time. Also appearing are The Coral and Johnny Marr.
