Next Thursday (16/05/19):

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00052ml

"Great British Menu - The Finals: Dessert
Each chef needs to cook a dessert to impress guest judge Peter Hook – Joy Division and New Order bassist. With one place left on the banquet menu, the chefs pull out all the stops."

I don't know what's weirder, Hooky as a judge of amateur chefs or him as an expert on late 15th Century music (see the '1599 - A True Story of the Elizabethan Court' programme he did).

PS Nice smile Hooky.

Bumper used on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. Definitely a New Order fan on staff! My thought was someone suggested the idea of showing flowers for Mother's Day, and this person ran with it, or it's intended as a subtle comment on the current administration (power, corruption, lies). Or both.

I love how this image is starting to creep into the zeitgeist the way Unknown Pleasures has.

Interesting. The color code they used could be interpreted as:

FACBG
61327

61327 is the zip code for Hennepin, Illinois. Maybe someone's hometown? Halfway between Chicago and Peoria.

Not the first time H&M have done new order clothng either. They did a True Faith T-shirt several years back for about a tenner - the shade of blue wasn't quite right.
And one of the other chains has done a PCL T-shirt for ladies before too.

Thanks for this.

I wonder what the BG is for. The person's initials maybe?

I bought both a few weeks ago.

They're decent quality.

H&M also did a 'Substance 1987' one last year, which I got.

I'm thinking it's the numbers, not the letters (those colors can stand for either according to Saville's color code wheel).

This is the actual painting inspiration I think from the National Gallery in London which I photographed in 2016

Incredible recreation of the painting and the sleeve.Clever.

Yeah the album cover has started proliferating tee shirts and other clothing and god knows what else over the last few years. You could argue the trend for flowers of all sorts of various descriptions plastered all over clothing that's become a fashion these days was influenced from the re-mergence of the album cover as an iconic image. Some journo wrote about the image sometime back and made a connection that it was a kind of new psychedelia of the time in 1983.The album cover is IMHO a better and more startling image than the Unknown Pleasures one.

From a Guardian article on Moby's memoir

Moby has his nice moment with New Order ruined

"Playing the Area: One outdoor summer tour with Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Barney Sumner as his opening act, Moby is struck by the surreal thought that “the guys in New Order and I were peers”. “It was also unsettling that I almost thought of them as friends.” He then apparently teaches them the chords to their own song New Dawn Fades. “After we rehearsed it with an acoustic guitar, Hooky looked at me kindly, like an older brother. ‘Moby,’ he said. ‘Ian would be proud.’”

But the moment is ruined when Moby discovers the comedian Andy Dick, trying to poo on his vegan end-of-tour cake in front of a crowd of chanting onlookers. “‘Oh, OK,’ I said, only mildly annoyed that now I wouldn’t be able to eat my vegan cake.’” Charlize Theron, who is there for some reason, says: “That’s disgusting.”

Yep, as usual I am one step behind.

I was loading the dishwasher yesterday listening to Radio 4 and Steve pops up! Hilarious, like running into him at the pub.

See my quick post in another thread here (OK, his book thread).

Books chosen were:

1. The Shepherd's Hut by Tim Winton (Catcher in the Rye meets Thornbirds)
2. This Is Memorial Device by David Keenan (Pseudo spoof oral history of imaginary Scots indie band)
3. The Story of Lucy Gault by William Trevor (Irish Civil War takes aim at a posho Anglo-Irish family)

Hmmmm…

Steve done good.
