With the rumour of New Order considering a 30 year anniversary tour of their beloved (no, not The Beloved) 1989 LP, who do you think would do well remixing tracks for a (totally made up by me) remix album?

Off the top of my head, I nominate Richard X for Round & Round, Francois Kevorkian for Mr. Disco and Gareth Jones for Dream Attack.

Not exactly left field choices, but no one wants another Armand Van Helden BLT debacle, do they?

Discuss...

I nominate Audion or Radio Slave for Fine Time.
The Chemical Brothers for Run

but to be honest, the more guitar based songs would be ruined by remixing, IMO.

I will be very surprised if New Order tour Technique!

Remixes are hard to predict, . Richard x has good form with new order before and did an excellent remix album for st etienne, foxbase beta.

I love my Detroit techno so I would love to hear Derick May mix of round & round (we already have a Kevin Saunderson one). Underground resistance for Fine a Time, rob hood for VP. Agree guitar based tracks unless radically reworked would be ruined.

Mark Reeder did a great job on Academic and Bad Lou songs. Richard X of course. But I would like to see some Djs under 40. I realize New Order is an old mans game now. But all these young people like to wear retro JD and NO shirts, so let’s let them prove it. Let’s see Kygo, Marshmello, Freedo, Calvin Harris or R3Hab.

I suspect this thread initially got no responses because we all know that remixing Technique will make it no better than it is.
And then Monkhouse jumped in...

In this case Monkhouse said something sensible. Well it must be, because I was going to say Robert Smith too!

This was my initial thought 100%, and then I remembered Regret - the Fire Island and Sabres Slow 'n Low mixes - they were pretty good. Not an improvement on the original of course, but enjoyable in their own way. Same for the Planet Funk mix of WFTSC, although other remixes didn't fare so well.

Ugh those names Eek . No no no! 2Unlimited, Alice Deejay and Snap! were all big in the 90s (and aged under 40) but that doesn't mean their remixing 'talents' should have appeared on The Rest Of...or the Republic singles. Calvin Harris remixing/producing Rhianna? Fine. But that doesn't make him right for NO. And honestly, he's the best name you've mentioned there!
If you want some more credible names under 40 how about Avalon Emerson, Jamie xx, Boys Noize, Skream, Kolsch, Moderat and Jon Hopkins (although Hopkins probably is pushing 40).

Anyway, I know ths is all academic, and hopefully the band don't sneak too many peeks at the forum these days. We don't want to put bad ideas in their heads.
Here's my effort. Feel free to rip it to pieces, Jim (and others).

Fine Time - Chemical Brothers (they already did a DJ edit for themselves circa 2014, give 'em the parts; make it official.)
All the Way - Robert Smith (yeah I copied Monkhouse)
Love Less - Lee Mavers (The La's)
Round & Round - Daniel Avery
Guilty Patner - Soulwax
Run - John Denver (they don't have to be alive do they?)
Mr Disco - Alex Metric (or someone who will turn down the "music box" keyboard tinkle and turn up Hook's bass)
Vanishing Point -Tocadisco (Yes his Regret remix was crap, but have you ever heard his Ibizan style "sundays at space" remix of PSB's Minimal? Brilliant)
Dream Attack - Ewan Pearson (maybe he could find a way of just extending it)

Fuck, someone agrees with me again. Disturbing.
Boners trax:
Don't Do It - Keepitcoming's Bernard Rides 37 narwahls across the equator Mix
Best and Marsh - Mel C's Footie Mix
MTO - Bernard's Why did I drop Guilty Partner for 30 years and keep fucking up LWTUA and Atmosphere instead Mix
The Happy One - Mel C's shoulderblades, Beer and Cameron Diaz' Thighs, How happier can you get Mix

I have always thought that of all the Royal Family it is probably her Royal Highness Queen Elizebeth2 that has listened to Joy Division and New Order more than the young ones ,because the younger ones probably had to listen to a lot of Elton John ,Boy George, George Michael some Oasis, Queen, and others, and like most people got set in their ways ,and never got around to listen to new order, who are much better in every aspect of life
That is why I will wait for the Queen of England remixes
We're like kestrels

Regarding a guitar based track:

How about Massive Attack doing Guilty Partner? I'm sure they could cook up an interesting alternative drum track (tempo halved, of course). More dramatic strings and a claustrophobic atmosphere would be a given.

I'd listen to that.

Technique is, for my money, the finest album ever created.

I don't need or want a remix album of it.

My 'perfect Technique' CD has the basic 12" single tracks in place of their album versions (incl Run2 extended, which I like) followed by the b-side instrumentals (incl The Happy One) ending on the Vanishing Point Instrumental Making Out Mix to top if all off perfectly.

Job done.

Hand the multi-tracks to Soulwax and let them create an entirely new remix-mix of the album from start to finish.

Release a 12" of Vanishing Point (Richard X Remixes Soulwax) b/w Mr. Disco (James Murphy Remixes Soulwax) as the single.

Meh. Instead maybe write and record a new song or two. Release a one off single or an EP? You know, just a thought.

Greatest LP ever recorded. Bar none.
As close to perfection as you could get.

Yep. The thing that struck me when I first listened to Technique in 1989 was the effortless brilliance of it. Like they didn’t have to even try.
