I once met Mel C. I admit it was intimidating, face to face with the world's most gorgeous, talented, successful megastar sex symbol... But after the initial nerves, she calmed down. (That's a joke. She didn't calm down.)
Mark King, Mark King's father and Mark King's daughter all have diarrhea. Runs in the family.

All of the songs of PF with Richard Wright and David Gilmour. playing so beautifully together, they are the soul of PF.
I thought i was crazy thinking these guys are the most beautiful pairing of guitar and piano, together , not just rock and roll, but any music, including classical music
.David won't ever play Echoes again because Richard is gone, and it is fitting . Barrett is THE storytellerof song ,no one has his combination of beauty, happiness ,love, and magical whimsy, Love Barrett ,for he is stellar ,his imagination,Rick's soul, Nick's heart /pulse,and good old Roger-- he was beautiful before he was angry.

For weird try Connan Mockasin.
For PF modern try
Public Systems Broadcasting
For women, i think, try
Jane Weaver
Josefin Ohrn( the O in Ohrn has a scandinavian line thru it diagonally )
That is alj

Directed by Rian "Last Jedi" Johnson
Starring Sissy "Carrie" Spacek
and David strathairn

A music video with a story. Worth a watch, even if LCD aren't your thing.

^ Yes i watched that new LCD video a week or so back.Reccognised David Straithern (he was great in BBC's McMafia a while back) but didn't realise the woman is Sissy Spacek. So at the end of the video he can save her by entering the portal thing they've/he made?

Got a month's free pass for Apple's music streaming thing and have used it to catch up on a couple of albums the last few days.Chrvches' Love Is Dead album that they released earlier this year. Not sure it's as strong as their Every Open Eye album from 2015 but there's certainly a fair few songs i'm taking to: Graffitti, Get Out, My Enemy, Heaven/Hell and Wonderland and more.

UserPostedImage

Also, have given Primal Scream's Give Out But Don't Give Up:The Original Memphis Recordings a listen.Apparently these recordings turned up in Andrew Innes' basement. Not sure how they could have been so easily lost for such a long time but hey.Everybody Needs Somebody is a highlight and quite a different version of Rocks.

Today's interesting fact about the Spice Girls
The first LP Emma bought was 'The Sound of Music'. The parallels with my life are astounding:
1. The Sound of Music is a musical, and I think musicals are total shit.
2. The Sound of Music is a song by Joy Division, whose bassist later formed Revenge, and I think Revenge are total shit too.
3. The most prominent letter in 'Emma' is M, the first letter of both my names, Melanie C (my favourite Spice Girl OF ALL TIME), Melanie B (my fourth favourite Spice Girl OF ALL TIME) and 'Money' (my 93rd favourite Beatles song OF ALL TIME).
4. Emma's surname is similar to Sandom, who used to kick my head in at school. Sandom took A-level French, which is why I dropped French (my best subject OF ALL TIME) in favour of Latin. The pressure of taking a subject I secretly disliked to university level left me depressed and on the verge of a breakdown. Now I am not depressed because I can think about Emma naked. Or I can keep my clothes on for it. It gets cold on the bus. Further, 'Breakdown' is a song by Grace Jones and Electronic and no Spice Girls.
5. That is the end of today's interesting fact about the Spice Girls. I hope you have enjoyed it.

Watched that horror film Hereditary the other night.Pretty good. Some truly unsettling and chill to the bone scenes but felt the end scene verged on the comical. And then on the closing credits this played.... not sure what the connection was but i enjoyed the song

"Give Out" wasn't as exciting as its predecessor but taken on its own terms it has something alright.
Enjoyed the program that was just on BBC4 about this. I'm not convinced that the 'original' Tom Dowd version is better, and I understand Alan McGee's comments that it may have sounded too thin for 1994. I guess if you want that classic album vibe from the 60s/70s then this might be the one.
Some of the bonus tracks make nice curiosites for the fans. For some reason the version I have downloaded comes with one more track than is listed on Discogs for Disc 2 of the CD release, namely Big Jet Plane (Sitar Version). It seems to be listed on Amazon under the streaming version but not the CD version.

If any UK/Ireland people missed the program it's repeated at 2am tonight.

Yep, recorded the programme earlier and watched it just now.Pretty good watch. Some great footage from back in the day.

Just going through the bonus tracks now, hadn't listened to them previously.Big Jet Plane (Sitar Version) is on the streaming version on Apple Music.Jailbird Guitar is a great little outtake .Also liking Jesus (Monitor Mix).Still to listen to some of the other bonus tracks.

Without listening again to the 1994 release of the album i'm not sure yet which i prefer.Haven't listened to that version in years.Maybe a playlist combining the best from the two different versions of the album might be the way to go for me, though some continuity in feel and vibe could get lost in doing that.

From memory i think i recall the problem i had with Give Out But Don't Give Up was that there was a little too much of the "I've lost my good woman and feel so sad and blue" stuff .Don't get me wrong, something like Everybody Needs Somebody and Cry Myself Blind were great but...I don't know, the Memphis version of the album seems to lay the sad and blue thing on even thicker. But at the same time it's good.

And maybe a bit too much slow turgid funk.

Always liked Rocks and Jailbird though.First heard Rocks when i was backpacking in Israel in 1994.We were in the bar of the hostel we were staying in in Tel Aviv and it came up on MTV (remember those days when MTV used to play music videos?).I thought yeah this is a bloody great party rocker and was then excited and looking forward to the album.I always associate the song with that place and time.

Not my favourite of the four new tunes I've heard from the forthcoming Chemical Brothers album (spring 2019), but the video is fantastic. Dom & Nic say it took eight months to complete. Worth catching the brief post-credits "phone" footage at the end too.

Nemone's show on 6Music last night was a cracker.Howie B was guest and some stonking tunes of his got played and also a short DJ mix by him at the end, the tracks of which aren't listed on the tracklist for the show.Only ever been aware of him, never checked out his stuff.Think i was put off my that crap remix he did of Age Of Consent.Last night they talked about his career and music, brilliant stuff listen here.

UNKLE - Ar.Mour

Max Cooper - Phi

Luke Haines - Deep Space Junk

The track is oddly listed under Miscellaneous on Discogs rather than listed as a single, even though it seems to be a two-track download.
I can see why Discogs suggests stuff like Moderat, Caribou, Kolsch and The xx underneath the band's listings. It has that moody, late night electronic vibe.

I thought his AOC remix was quite brave, but it was always going to be diffcult to improve on the original. I suspect the only way to satisfy NO fans with a remix of that track would be to beef up the synths a bit, and maybe extend it. Stripping out the good bits is asking for trouble.
I was also aware of Howie B as a contributor to U2's Passengers project, and more recently I caught him supporting Trentemoller at the Royal Festival Hall (!) as part of 2014's Meltdown festival. I remember thinking at the time I should probably check out his stuff (but did I?...).

Speaking of NO (sort of), Mixmag have made this track No. 4 in their 50 best tracks of 2018. They describe this as "retro" and "New Order-esque", and they may have a point. But it's not as good as NO, IMHO (surprise!).

Krystal Klear - Neutron Dance

^ Yes I think I’ve heard that Krystal Clear- Neutron Dance. Probably on Nemine’s show. It is kind of like New Order except nowhere near as good.Think I’ve said before though that I’m not a big fan of bands trying to sound like New Order. It’s usually not very good ( see Delphic. Remember them?). I’m a bigger fan of bands taking the innovation and attitude of New Order but creating their own sound from it.Like for say am obviously example LCD Soundsystem.Though some of their stuff does sound like New Order I guess. There’s a track on their most recent album that sounds like a straight rip of the melody to Procession. But on the whole they take inspiration from NO amongst others to create their own thing.

No I don’t know what HVOB stands for.. The vocals sound like that band Daughter, I think. Someone like that.
