According to someone on one of the Facebook groups I’m a member of, New Order feature on this documentary tomorrow night:

https://www.radiotimes.c...e-world--s1-e1-the-beat/

As I’m a complete Luddite in transferring things to digital, if anyone is able to transfer it, can they possibly let me have a copy?

That would be fab.

Ta.

There was no New Order in tonight's episode but damn, it was good. Tonight's episode was subtitled "The Beat". From the creation of the 4/4 disco beat through to Chicago House and Detroit Techno (The 808), then Acid House (The 303) and the UK adopting the music without even realising (or perhaps caring?) that it was started by a small bunch of African-American guys.

It's the first of three parts; next week's episode is called "The Club". I'm guessing the Hac will appear at some point. A tweet from Mute (who suggested incorrectly that we might see this tonight) says it's Bernard in particular who appears in the programme.

This certainly isn't the first House documentary I've seen, but I really enjoyed this one. It felt like all killer, no filler. Interviews with the likes of Derrick May and Marshall Jefferson came across as genuine and down to earth. Assuming parts 2 & 3 are as good as part 1, then it's worth watching almost regardless of the NO connection. Unless you dont like House music....

Yep it's a solid doc.Really well put together, a lot of time and effort gone into it.I wondered if it might be all a bit so so heard it all before but i was well impressed.A lot of interviews with some of the original main players like Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson et al.

Ah - my bad! Maybe next week then.
May still watch this episode based on yours and Fotzepolitic's recommendations.

Bernard & Steve featured in tonight's episode.Recorded and will copy that part to laptop over the weekend.Confusion video and Paradise Garage etc,

Lot of stuff about the raves in fields and warehouses in UK in 88-90 in tonight's.Was vaguely aware back in that time of that stuff going on but i was so obsessed with listening to NO's Technique in 1989, House Of Love and Cocteau Twins in the late 80s and early 90s i never really bothered going to a rave in a field.I did go to the Hacienda a couple of times in 1990 but that was about it and the rave scene for me.Oh we did go to Coventry Eclipse a few times in about 91-92 but i never really got into that scene.Later in the 90s we went to Cream in Liverpool in about 96-97 a few times but all i can remember about Cream is telling some knob 'ead who was trying to sell me some E to fuck off and laughing in his face. The music was pretty beige and conservative to my ears as i was big into Future Sound Of London's Dead Cities album and Aphex Twin around that time 1996-97.Never went to Ibiza and Manumission. So i suppose you could say by the time i dipped my toes into the dance/rave scene the illegal raves in fields and warehouses thing was long gone and it had become a co modified, conservative, licensed business out to get as much money out of you as possible.Ah well.

Yes that was clearly a recent interview with Bernard and Steve. Also a fair bit of footage that we saw in the 1983 BBC Hacienda programme that I posted to a different thread a while ago...which has alas, since been blocked on youtube due to music copyright or something.

This weeks' episode followed a similar pattern to last weeks: i.e starting in the beginning, at David Mancuso's Loft parties in 1970 and finishing in the present day with the slightly depressing EDM "raves" and overpriced luxury clubs like Ushuaia which just feel so damn cynical and greedy. But the programme was done well (again), and I enjoyed every minute of it. Even the interviews with Paul Oakenfold.

There was also an appearance for NO's Elegia during a bit about Cream in Liverpool, where owner James Barton was saddened and worried about the Hacienda's demise due to gangsters in Manchester. Apparently Liverpool gangsters can be a worry too, as Steven Gerrard might attest if he were on this forum...

Yeah i kind of enjoyed the programme last night but all that EDM and luxury clubs stuff left a bad taste at the end.

Paul Oakenfold seems to attract a bit of dislike if i'm not mistaken.Have liked some of his remixes and stuff over the years though.

Nice to hear snippet of Elegia in the beginning of the part about Cream. That track seems to get used a lot lately.Obviously at the start of the Decades documentary but i've also spotted it a few times elsewhere, it was even used in a documentary about the moon in some programme i saw not so long back.

I have on my laptop that 1983 tv thing about the Hacienda and interview with Tony Wilson.Didn't know you'd posted the youtube link somewhere on here a while back, Debaser. Can send you the file if yer interested.

1) So that's what John Robie looks like.
2) So that's what the clicking sound is called; it's an electronic "rim shot".

Nice little video.

Guetta, Tiesto, Van Dyk, Aoki.... euurghhh. Big vacuous EDM “raves” . Puke. I have washed my ears and eyes out fully after watching that shower of shite.Tossers one and all. They make Donald Trump look like a good person.

Those DJs are the sort of drivel I hear blaring out of car stereos past my house.I’ll have nightmares tonight of being in America and some group of teenagers saying to me “ Oh you must come with us tonight to Dodgers Stadium for the EDM show!! David Guetta is gonna kill it!!”
Shiver.

Any Chemical Brothers? I'm just in the door from watching them. Including a nice chunk of Temptation incorporating some Bernard vox.
