The NOMC15 live album was recorded over the 2 nights at Brixton Academy, November 2015? Oh i seeee.. Had been under the impression that it was all from the second night, which i was at and had regarded the album as a nice memento of that night. That information has rather disappointed me now.

Per interview... Not working on any new music yet, a chance then due to their age we may never get another new order album, more like Kraftwerk keep on revisting the old stuff and revising it in new concepts, We’ll see but it will be at least 2020 b4 anything new, new order will be mid 60’s by then. Steve seems to give the impression working on new material would have been more beneficial than MiF?

Great interview. It’s always nice to hear Stephen’s thoughts. He’s a really interesting guy (can’t wait for his book).

Disappointing, but understandable, that they aren’t currently writing any new songs.

What’s just as annoying is his statement that ‘It worked out well but I wouldn’t like to do it again.’ in respect of the deconstruction of the songs for the MiF gigs.
I was really hoping that they’d have a go at another group of ‘lost’ songs. Those MiF gigs were just the best. Absolutely brilliant hearing tracks like Ultraviolence, Vanishing Point, Sub-Culture and Shellshock again after all those years.

How cool would it be to hear revamped versions of Everything’s Gone Green, Hurt, Chosen Time etc?

I wonder what Joy Division song they’ve been working on. New Dawn Fades maybe?

Yeah. It can be a bit annoying when people just keep rehashing old material, eh, Michael? Wink

She's Lust Cuntrol was HORRIBLE when they did it circa GR. Almost as bad as LWTU and Atmos. Hand and Soul worked though.

Much as I think they have every right to perform the Joy Division tracks, I sometimes wish they wouldn’t.

The album tracks are usually okay, but things like LWTUA and SLC usually fall foul of being performed with too much ‘welly’.

Given the subject matter, I really don’t need She’s Lost Control peppered with various ‘woohs’ And ‘COME ON!!!’.

Seems unnecessary and a little crass.

I guess Barney feels the need to ‘oomph’ it up a bit, (along with LWTUA) considering their ‘anthem’ status.

But, yeah, Heart & Soul sounds fine. So did Disorder. As I’ve hinted before, I’d love to see them do NDF at some point again.

The other problem I have with the Joy Division songs being performed is this.

However much I love Joy Division, I still consider myself a New Order fan first and foremost.

Because they are performing JD songs, there isn’t a lot of room for them to experiment with doing new New Order songs:

A typical gig of 17 tracks usually consists of:

5 x ‘guaranteed’ NO songs (Temptation, BLT, TF, BM, TPK)
4 x new album songs
3 x other ‘classics’ (Ceremony, Regret, Crystal etc.)

If you then add 3 JD songs (guaranteed to include LWTUA, Atmosphere, Transmission or SLC), you only have 2 songs to play around with (i.e. Lonesome Tonight In 2015, AIIWIW In 1993 etc.).

I guess I wouldn’t mind the JD songs if they experimented more with ‘deeper cuts’. Disorder was nice. Let’s have 24 Hours or Interzone.

The band have too many anthems, dammit. :-)

I remember enjoying Digital at a Hook & The Light gig. You can give that one a bit of Omph without sounding disrespectful to the original.

I did find myself looking at the band though, and thinking:
Phil playing (some of) Bernards guitar parts
Bernard singing Ian's vocals
Tom playing Hooks bass parts
Gillian wasn't in JD
Steve...playing Steve's bits!

Maybe I've caught the critical disease.

On a different subject, that Youtuber also recorded Subculture. I don't think we would have seen these visuals prior to this US jaunt would we?

I don't mind the JD songs, as long as they can do them justice. LWTUA is a delicate, fragile track, and they turn it into a lads' night out. Atmosphere is unlistenable - trundling drums, twangy bass, piercing synths and a horrible vocal with Michael Jackson whoops.
NDF isn't impossible. They played it with Moby (he also covered it for Means to an End - GROSS).

Doh, when Steve said they’d been working on another JD song to do live I assumed he meant one they hadn’t done before. Ah well.I always thought the version on the Finsbury 5 11 DVD was good though, it actually benefits from having a bit of ‘welly’ and yet compliments the original at the same time . This version they did the other night from that YouTube clip wasn’t so great I thought but it is just an audience recording with crap audio.

Love Will Tear Us Apart live though I have to agree with Mr Monkhouse, they turn the song into a lads night out rather than a classic song that stirs the soul.
