On the 24HR PP soundtrack it's listed as New Order and Moby but I can't really make out Hooky and the drums don't really sound like Steve. Does anybody have the info on what gig it was recorded at and who was performing? I've often wondered if it was just Bernard strumming along (and whooping) with Mobys band.

The credits in the 24 Hour Party People (OST) booklet list it as "New Order featuring Moby" and also list both Billy Corgan and John Frusciante on guitar:

24HPP Booklet

I think I read somewhere Steve played the congas on this rendition and you can hear them being thwacked during the drum intro. I also read somewhere (else) Moby saying in an interview what a privilege it was to play the song with actual members of Joy Division despite it being "slightly surreal teaching them the chords" or something along those lines (Entirely believable, to be honest).

Aside from that unless a video exists I have no idea what Bernard or Peter contributed to this track. To me it always sounded more like Moby's band playing the track with a cameo or two from New Order regardless of what the booklet says. Agree that Hooky bass isn't really evident on the recording. The guitars are a bit overpowering bordering on fret-wankery in my opinion but that's just me. Obviously 2001 was some time before camera-phones and a quick search on YouTube reveals no footage.

One thing we do know for sure is that it was recorded at Area Festival in 2001. The Phonographic company in the booklet gives that away. Maybe Moby will release a DVD of the concert at some point... but he probably would have by now if he was going to.

According to the fairly reliable New Order Gigography, New Order played the four final dates of Moby's 2001 Area:One tour and the set list for Glen Helen Blockbuster Pavilion - Devore (Los Angeles), CA on 5th August 2001 features:

Quote:
Atmosphere, Regret, Crystal, Love Will Tear Us Apart, Your Silent Face, Turn My Way, Bizarre Love Triangle, Touched By The Hand Of God, True Faith, Temptation, 60 Miles An Hour, Blue Monday, New Dawn Fades (during moby's set with with Moby, Gillian, and others)

So there we go, mystery solved and also explains why it doesn't really sound like New Order (as musicians) primarily playing on it.

Moby's version on "Later" is incredible.

Cheers for the replies, I knew something didn't sound right. Does it make me fickle when I say I've gone off the track now? And I also feel like I need to change it on Itunes from New Order to Moby?

Finally, the company that made that 24HPP OST? Robbing bastards. They knew listing the track as New Order would make it appealing to the completists and back in 2002 there wasn't the option to buy just that one track either. I'm glad I waited and found it on a torrent siteNod
