One of the strangest videos i've ever seen.Cool though. And kind of really funny also.Reminds me of those weird and brilliant teatime kids tv series from the 1970s; The Tomorrow People.Or The Changes, that kind of thing.

Enjoying listening to tributes from the golf world ( the best and only honorable sport unpolluted by assholes) , to the king, Arnold Palmer, which brings me to also cherish one of my kings of music, Bernard ,(dwarfing the pathetically hyped Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson), and another king , David Gilmour, and another, Danny Kirwan ( best guitarist ,singer , songwriter of the 20th century, and of course, not to confuse these wonders with " my king , do you know him?" , by Dr S M Lockridge , which is about King Jesus Christ who dwarfs everything that has been or will be.

Haven't made my mind up about these guys yet. I guess they're young and full of themselves.
Get past the intro and it's a nice 90's indie-dance kinda groove. If you like that sort of thing.

Friends, by White Lies. Somewhat crappy reviews, but so what, it's what I've come to expect. After a few listens I can say this album definitely has its moments.

Rather drunk past midnight i've somehow found myself watching old Human League clips.

Heart Like A Wheel on TOTP, 1990.Oh the girls..... Susan had the attitude but Joanne had the thigh high boots and reminded me of a girl i knew in the late 80s/early 90s.Though the girl i knew didn't wear thigh high boots but did look like Joanne.Oh heady days.

Human - reminds me of being in nightclubs in 1986

Life On Your Own - reminds me of leaving school and starting very first job at 16 years old.Is that a good memory or bad?.... hmmm...

Joanne in shorts on OTT, 1981. Remember watching this aged 13 or something.Think it's clear by now i had an obsession with and favoured Joanne over Susan

Louise video.Featuring Joanne in a bath three quarters way through video.I should probably stop it now

Beautiful vocal on this.Reminds me of those days, well, nights long ago when we'd end up in the Indian restaurant drunk at the end of the night and the music playing was all that Indian vocals stuff.Except this is set to a beat.Oh and it's Divali this weekend.

New from The xx

Not sure I like it that much, although I can definitely hear Jamie xx's influence.

Speaking of which, that China-shot video for "Gosh" is now available for all of us to watch in full screen, not just Apple Music subscribers.

The "making-of" is kinda fun too once you get past the first 30 secs

^ Yes that new xx song, listened to it a few times over the last couple of days.Kind of like it and can appreciate they are trying something new but i'm not sure it's as strong as a lot the stuff on their first two albums which i really liked.Still, will be interested to hear the new album in the new year.

Thanks for posting that Gosh video making of.So there is actually an Eiffel Tower replica in China albeit smaller?? Somehow i'd thought it'd been CGI or something created for the video! Hope all those Chinese kids got paid well for their efforts.

Killing Joke - Adorations

Heard this for the first time today on a not-for-profit radio show. The only song I'd ever heard by them before was Love Like Blood, so I've got some research to do.

Loved this band in the late80s/early90s.

This song had a dreamy/psychedelic feel to it.About a groupie if i remember right!

Girl in this video or the image of her looks like the same girl who was in Chemical Brothers' (also quite Psychedelic) Let Forever Be video of some years later?

Ah yes, one of those tracks hailed as a modern classic by those "in the know". A B-side from a Ltd edition 12" that managed to escape to a wider audience and impint itself on the "Burning Man" cognoscenti. Or something. A copy of that particular 12" which comes in a box with a pair of shoes is currently offered for sale at $2,500 on Discogs. Thank goodness for cheap downloads.

For further "waxing lyrical", this 2016 article from Vice/Thump really goes to town, fortunately with sense of humour intact.

It's funny how some nice chords and a handful of repeated lyrics can grab you and give you a meloncholy yet slightly epic vibe. Makes me think of other dance tunes over the years that have hit me with their subtle "epicness". Like...

Sabres of Paradise: Smokebelch II, orginal mix and David Holmes mix (for the final 4 mins)
Jam & Spoon: Odyssey To Anyoona which I used to think was magical but admittedly sounds a bit saccharine-sweet now.
Moby: God moving over the face of the waters, with similar-ish tinkly piano. Perhaps that was a signifier of epicness back in the mid 90's.
And some more recent understated yet epic tunes like:
Nathan Fake - The Sky Was Pink (James Holden remix)
The xx - VCR (Four Tet remix)
Friendly Fires - Paris (Aeroplane Remix)

Having said all that, "Time" perhaps shouldn't be held in too high an esteem. Perhaps it isn't that great masterpiece that some beard strokers think it is. When you realise it's basically a sample of the first ten seconds of this:

^ OK you probably have a point about the Pachenga Boys track ( as in it is basically a sample of that tune you posted). I still like it though and as i said i'd never heard it before.

Of those other tracks you mentioned and linked i know and like Smokebelch or at least that David Holmes remix.I remember Sabres Of Paradise' Haunted Dancehall album and liked it from what i recall but haven't dug it out for years.

Of the other ones you linked i listened to parts but would have to listen more to form an opnion but i did notice that Aeroplanes remix of Freindly Fires features Au Rveoir Simone who did a great song i loved called Another Likely Story a few years back.

You're right that's the bottom line and my trainspotter ramblings shouldn't detract from that. Regardless of it's origins, it's a good tune, and one of those tracks that will probably still sound great on it's 10th or 20th birthday. It has a "Time"less quality about it (yeah, rubbish pun).

Just watching your Au Revoir Simone video and I realise I saw them live at London's Electric Ballroom in 2014 as part of the Camden Crawl. A good festival for the punters insofar as it wasn't too pricey and it was easy to get into all the venues. Not so good for the artists, as the organisers went into liquidation shortly afterwards and never paid their fees.

The original version of Paris doesn't even feature Au Revoir Simone but the vocal (probably a guide or backing vocal) was included in the package sent to Aeroplane for the remix, so they used it - effectively making the track a cover version (which is arguably better than the original).

"Time" has reminded me of another dance track that has become something of a classic despite being mostly a sample.

Alan Braxe & Fred Falke - Intro

Which sampled this piece of 80's cheese (at 2.27)

^ I'd say that was the original Kraftwerk track (Uranium was it called?, not Blue Monday

Did anyone see Charlie Brooker's recent Black Mirror series on Netflix? Not quite as good as the previous couple of series on Channel 4 a few years ago (15 Million Merits from that series was a particular dystopian nightmare X Factor type future nightmare scenario highlight) but the episode San Junipero of the most recent series left me speechless and lost.Belinda Carlisle's Heaven Is A Place On Earth will never sound quite the same ever again after it ( though Orbital did get there first i think by sampling it and which i witnessed live at Glastonbury 1995 if memory serves me right .Not to be confused with Orbital's 1994 Glastonbury appearance which i also was lucky to witness and was present at.)

^ Wow that'll be interesting if KLF do indeed release some new stuff. They were a lot of fun back in the late 80s/early 90s.Thought the deal with them and new material was they would only release new stuff if peace was found between Israel and Palestine ? Or KLF had recorded a song but would only release it once peace was found on the West Bank? Either that or the 23 years thing (the number 23 is an obsession of Bill Drummond's) Either i read that it in John Higg's brilliant book about The KLF or Bill Drummond's book '45'.Kick out The JAMMs.Make mine a 99.They're justified and they're ancient and they drive an ice cream van. They called me up in Tennessee and said Tammy stand by the JAMMs.And, yer know, all the rest.
