Yesterday saw the completely unexpected digital re-release of Minimal's Confusion Remixes from 1990. Available to buy here.

There are some key differences:

- The 'Con-om-fus-ars-ion Mix' is missing which is a shame as it was my favourite remix of the lot,
- The 'Acappella' is completely different to the original 1990 version,
- The 'Trip 1- Ambient Confusion' is also different to the original as it's now a vocal-less version of the 'Essential Mix',
- The 'Confused Ooh-Wee Dub' is very different to the original 1990 but has some common elements (it's longer too),
- The 'FVMSTR Remix' seems to be totally new, sounds like it was done recently.

Nice to have some of these mixes in digital format. I can retire some of my crackly old vinyl to FLAC transfers.

Discogs entry for the original vinyl.

Thanks to Nick for the original spot.

Con-um-fus-arse-i-on used to be my favourite ever take, but it hasn't aged too well. Ditto TF Pet Shoppiboner.

This was the first version of the 1983 recording of Confusion that was released on CD, the DMC remix. I think it's a cracker, and should be much better known. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sqa2fbiYpRg

Yep my favourite mix. Was that on one of those Volume compilations?

listening to some of the new mixes, which are ok.

surprised they didn't just reissue the original. odd timing for it.
and confusing (ha) that they kept some of the same mix names.

I had it on this Best Of Volume.

Plenty of early 90s electronic faves. What a time it was.

Odd release this. Some tracks have mix titles from the original release, but are different mixes. Even the mixes with the correct titles are longer versions than on the 1990 12". Guess the mixes originally released were edited down a little.

Having said that, the new versions sound warm and well mastered, just odd it's not the same versions!

The perils of poorly labelled master tapes and labels not giving a careful listen to the original releases before "re-releasing" old stuff. Typical New Order, in other words!

Oh , i do have that old 12" release from 1990.Probably haven't played it since about 1991.Maybe will dig it out and give it a spin.So some of these new mixes are longer /slightly different/massively different/ titles swapped around versions? Confusion indeed.

There was a mix of Confusion on one of those old Volume compilation series? I do remember the series and have one of them on cassette from around 1993.It was a double cassette if i recall and came with a thick booklet that detailed all the artists and tracks.

The one I linked above. I also come with thick booklets.
It was also on NO The Remix, a bootleg CD I shelled out for in 95 https://www.discogs.com/...he-Remix/release/7706942 - the most memorable thing about said CD was RIAD Phased and Dazed, which is so fucking awful it makes Razormaid sound like Horny Lips-On. Just whoosh in and out of the original. Well worth buying. The others ones I ''''''''needed'''''''' it for were Sister Ray (Live 'n' Dangerous Mix - actually a live take I'd never heard so worthwhile), Paradise Bounty (acceptable) and BM DJOnlyClubMix, which was a totally bonkers reworking of Beach Buggy. The joys of being a collector.

It's not really down to the band, Minimal was Arthur Baker's label, now it seems to be under the control of someone else.

I guess it keeps the fan discographers busy ;)

Which reminds me I've long had ambitions of setting up a wiki like http://nin.wiki to try and get a handle on the NO catalogue (and the Cure one for that matter), but haven't ever got around to it. The easiest way would be a Wikia but I really, really don't want to do that (bad experience with another wiki on their service which we eventually migrated of to http://doomwiki.org). So err, if I ever did, does this sound interesting to anyone else?
