Good afternoon - can anyone confirm if this is actually a thing, and if so, does it sound markedly better than the 2008 reissue?
Also, if I live in the UK, can I download it from the US iTunes store or is there anywhere else I can obtain it from?
Thanks
Pete

Looking at US iTunes right now and I'm not sure. It has a little "Mastered for iTunes" label on it, but doesn't indicate anything else about it being new or different.

In 2015, Frank Arkwright, who remastered "Total" and the new version of "Singles" (as well as The Smiths back catalog), remastered all of New Order's albums (except "Get Ready" - don't know why that was excluded). Then, Warner Music/Rhino quietly released them to digital sites for download and streaming. I suspect that they'll ultimately be made available on CD, after fans forget the 2008/2009 reissue debacle, and are willing to buy the albums YET AGAIN.

Forget iTunes - you can download all the 2015 remasters in the UK from 7 Digital (320 MP3 or FLAC). Here's the link for "Movement":

https://www.7digital.com...release/movement-4783008

Unfortunately, the albums are pricey on that site - more than a single CD. But I don't think you can find them in that quality elsewhere.

I can't vouch for the improved sound, but I've read very favorable reviews on this forum and elsewhere. You can stream them for free on Spotify, although the sound quality there is only 192 MP3, I believe.

It's great that the band's back catalog is FINALLY being treated properly, but fans are getting screwed in the deal.

Looks like Amazon UK has them available in MP3 format; however, you have to look for the versions with the tracks marked '2015 Remastered Version.'

Also, I don't know what quality Amazon offers - last time I downloaded from them, the tracks were only 256. And other I bought were VBR.

Yes it's an excellent mastering, better than the 2008 effort and the best one available right now (in my opinion).

Would never recommend buying from iTunes though.

Buy it in FLAC format on 7digital, Juno Download or Qobuz and at least you'll be getting full 44khz/16bit CD quality.

Qobuz will also let you download in whatever format you choose after purchase (MP3 etc.) but you can still burn a CDR with the FLAC files and bingo, a physical copy (of sorts).

Recently (3 weeks ago) I purchased MP3s of 4 albums - Movement, PCL, Lowlife & Technique from Australian Sound-Of-Vinyl website (owned by Universal Music Group) and these albums were noted as 2015 remasters.
And I can say the audio quality is a definite improvement. That was the very first time I paid for MP3s !!!...and the reason I did that was the audio quality I heard from the WFTSC 2015 remasters was so impressive I couldnt wait for the CD or vinyl 2015 remasters releases.

The only downside, 2 songs have glitches, both album openers - Dreams Never End & Love Vigilantes....oh well..

I have burnt those albums on CDRs and have been turning them really load on my hifi ...and it sound fantastic - good separation & wide soundstage.Happy
what a tutti frutti world of colours!!!

Could be that the albums were remastered with the proposed boxset in mind?

Does that explain why the vinyl reissue of GR is so useless? The quietest record I own - cranking up the volume still doesn't do it justice, just highlights the background noise, crackles and pops

I was mistaken - Frank Arkwright did remaster "Get Ready" in 2015 for the vinyl reissue, but that new mix has not been made available digitally. Also, the low volume level seems to be a common complaint.

Thanks for the main post and by consequence Shelf's link. Downloaded Technique from Digital. Spent a bit of time trying to sort it but got Vox. I have some decent headphones and it sounds amazing! Couldn't burn it to a cd any ideas? No worries if not, hearing notes/instruments I have never heard - genuinely impressed!

Get XLD (X Lossless Decoder) to convert it to ALAC or WAV, then use iTunes to burn *that* copy to CD.

It's now on the NewOrder store, but it doesn't specify if it's MP3 or FLAC.

Don't suppose anyone knows, do they?

Cheers

Sorry for the bump, but this seems kinda like the most relevant thread.

For years I've listened to, and enjoyed, my own rip of the Movement CD issue - probably the most common version that was available, London records or whatever. There was a skip/odd bit in the last verse of "Truth"- Barney's "A Strange Day..." vocal gets mangled a little. I always assumed this was just a bad CD rip on my part.

Then I got the 2015 remaster which sounds remarkable, really good, but that same skip is present! So then I figured it must have been on the master, and wasn't fixed in the remastering, and was just one of those things.

But yesterday I span (for the first time, shame on me) my vinyl copy of Movement - the US issue with the brown colour scheme on the cover. And the skip WASN'T THERE.

So I wonder if I am crazy.

Just re-listening to the 2015 remaster in iTunes on my computer, rather than my portable, to compare. YEP: the skip is there still.

So all the digital versions I've ever head have it, but the US vinyl pressing at least doesn't.

(This reminds me of The Cure's "A Forest", which has a really obvious fader fuck-up in it near the end on nearly every version I've ever heard, except for a friend of mine's LP copy of "17 Seconds". I need to figure out which pressing that is, because I'm fairly sure the fuck up is on the pressing I have.)
