An often made mistake.New Order did not headline that final night of Reading 98 festival.Garbage headlined.I mean , i was there so am in quite a position to know.Not that i stayed to watched Garbage, we wandered off and tried out some virtual reality goggles thing at a stall if i recall.Or did the writer mean they were one of the main acts that night? Whatever.



Get Ready is alright- some good songs, some shit ones.I've always rated Vicious Streak.Primitive Notion is good but let down slightly with some crap lyrics.

Get Ready was probably the last time i hadn't heard a New Order album til the day it was released.In fact probably the only time.All the other albums i heard after or before release.

I don't listen to Crystal much these days but back in 2001 it was the dog's bollocks for the way it left Britpop and some of the other crap we'd had to suffer in the 90s trailing in its wake.

I've always liked Turn My Way , i know a lot of people think it's gash.Same with Slow Jam.


Not many good gig memories for me from that period though.I only did Manchester Apollo October 2001.Finsbury Park is one of the best remembered gigs of that era but i didn't make it to that one.

I like "Get Ready" a lot, when it was launched 15 years ago I thought "hey, sounds far superior than 'Republic'" and I didn't change my mind over the years. I really like its guitar-driven approach with an electronic background. Even so, it has some few crappy ideas indeed. But in general it is a quite good record. I think "Crystal", "Primitive Notion" and "Close Range" are true highlights.

My interest was at an all-time low in 2001 but I bought Get Ready - out of curiosity and boredom more than anything else. As I've said, it's very much an album of 2 sides. Crysal kicks butt, TMW and VS are perfect melancholia and PN would be up there with Sunrise and 24 Hours if the words weren't such a pile of steaming mongoose pooh. Second side is mediocre, with some of the worst words in the history of time: The sea was rough, I am not tough, but I'm no freak, it's better than studying Greek. I never liked Bernard's 'Hey now, come on and thin positive and shit, like' lyrics, as epitomised in 'Dream On'.

Well it was available from around Feb 1999 on the soundtrack to the movie The Beach but unless you were able to obtain it by other means back then like file sharing or whatever then no. I didn't get into the Internet and file sharing until late 1999 by which time I'd shelled out for The Beach cd. Think the song featured quietly in the background for about 20 seconds in that movie. Never mind, we got the song in full on the cd. On the quiet it was quite a momentous song actually in the history of New Order - it was their first new song in 6 years at that time which was the longest at that point in their career without releasing anything new. I recall hearing it for the first time on Mark n Lard's old Radio 1 show in early '99 and it did sound pretty bloody good at the time and was such a relief after those long barren 90s years without the band being active .
