Just received an email which states:

"The deluxe vinyl box set is still available to pre-order and stock should be shipping in a couple of weeks.  Don’t forget, 200 random orders from the store will be signed by the band so order now to be in with a chance to receive a signed copy".

A couple of weeks?

Are we getting it early?

It is complicated, and time consuming, and expensive in equipment terms (assuming you don't already have it), if you want to do it *well*. Assuming the label haven't cocked it up, a download code is a MUCH better way to get a digital copy of the mixes, and you'll get something in higher fidelity than the vinyl pressing to boot. Heck I wish they put download codes in CD cases, even ripping CDs is a pain in the arse imho, and can go wrong, and can give you the wrong results without you knowing. (Much amusement at the recent complaining about CDs with pre-emphasis)

all you really need is a USB turntable, like this:

and connect up to your computer.

these are new records, so you don't have to worry about noise, rumble, crackle, etc.

and if there is some, the basic audio software (audicity), or soundforge will do the job.

i've been doing this for several years now (see the recycle 2 project), or for many other groups
with much poorer sources, and the results have been very good.

If you've managed to get good results with equipment like that, my congratulations to you, because I haven't. In the last year I digitised roughly 100 records, mostly old classical. I started the project with a Numark PT-01 which is a slightly more upmarket version of the Ion turntable pictured there, but the audio quality was too poor for my ears. The records I was digitising were old, scratchy and dusty, but my reference was a second pressing Blue Monday, and I did a bunch of my own stuff at the same time: the three "Jewel" 7" releases by the Cranes, and a couple of brand new LPs; in all cases I was not happy with the audio that the USB turntable could produce. It was a good enough audio interface, however, and it has a line-in, so I ended up using it with my old Dual turntable, Autofon stylus running through an old Rotel combined amp, then line out to the PT-01, then USB to the laptop + audacity for post-processing. That did the job, but the post-processing is still time consuming (especially with 100 records! At least with classical stuff, there are not very many track splits to manage) and requires some skill.

Honestly, faced with doing 11 sides of vinyl for a 2015 album that way, versus a download that might even be 2496 but even if it isn't will be higher fidelity than the vinyl source, and is literally a click of a button away, I just don't see the point.

I haven't checked out the Recycle 2 project yet, but I must give it a look - thanks. That reminds me, I need to fill some holes in my Recycle #1 collection...

In hmv again today, two weeks in a row, just in case of anything unexpected - well you never know. Stranger things have happened. The vinyl of Music Complete is now a double vinyl LP - no sign of the single vinyl LP from last week. The artwork is a slightly different colour scheme, and of course there was no info on the album or any stickers on the shrink wrap, as to what is on the second disc? are they two one sided discs, and what could be the reason for that? The CDs were just the same as last week with the same colours as the single vinyl album that has now vanished, in fact I’m wondering if its possible that last week I imagined that they were the same colour and didn’t notice it was double vinyl. Or did they change the lighting in the vinyl section? It’s all very confusing. Give me the download any day. (not that I have, or intend to get another turntable)

Managed to get the video of Restless live onto my phone though, so I don’t have to be parted from it - you could say I’m besotted. If you don’t add any artwork, it creates its own artwork as a home video, but if you add artwork, it just gives you a little grey box. Confused iTunes glitches I guess.

Hi all.

I've been a New Order fan ever since I first heard the opening beats of Blue Monday in 1983 - even though I had a copy of Donna Summer's Bad Girls and recognised the drum beat they'd nicked. I went on to buy every New Order 12" I could get my hands on until the 90s and I continued with Cd singles for a good while after that. My favourite New Order album is Substance - so I'm obviously pretty excited about the box set and associated 12" versions.

The thing is, I don't play vinyl any more and £65.00 plus £50.00 postage to Australia is a lot of money to spend on something I'm never going to physically use. The online store shows no sign of making HD downloads of the extended versions available independently of the vinyl box set, and although I know I could wait til they show up online and pirate them, I really want to do the right thing and pay for the music I love.

I'm wondering if there's anyone on here who's ordered the vinyl and doesn't want the HD files who might be interested in selling me their download codes? I'm not sure if anyone will be interested, or if this is even legal, but it seems a better alternative than acquiring the files from The Pirate Bay. Any takers?

I'm in your boat too, plumbat. Right down to the taking up of the band from the opening beats of Blue Monday. Melbourne's AM radio 3XY I believe it was.

I have forked out that small fortune for box set and shipping down under. That's the price of love.

I'm sure we'll find a way of ensuring the extended HD files are available in good time.

Seriously considered it, but I really love this album so I guess I just have to cough up the $$$ if I want legitimate copies - I ordered the box set this morning.

That said, if anyone were to upload the extended files somewhere while I'm waiting for my download code to arrive in Australia by snail mail, I could be tempted...

i'm happy to say, that even with my low cost solution..

the results have been very good:

i'm listening to the remastered versions i have, and comparing to the
digital files, they are on equal, and even better quality.

you should have no problem with these pressings if you want to transfer them for yourself.
