Sorry, I linked the non-remastered version by mistake:

Technique (2015 Digital Remaster)

The old credit card's going to be glowing red hot with New Order purchases for this month.

Are the bonus discs being remastered also I wonder?

Next thing we need is an expert to assess these remasters, if the imperfections have been fixed, if the remasters are better at all than the previous reiterations.

No, though Singles takes care of a fair few of those tracks.

To be fair, the original "album" discs on the 2008 remasters were mostly fine. It was only the bonus discs which suffered badly from imperfections and needed to be repressed. The sound on the bonus disc repressings were very good but they didn't redo the album masterings (until now).

Back from Rough Trade East. Loads of Music Complete CDs and literally piles of the clear vinyl edition (can't be that limited from the sheer amount they had!). No sign of The London Years reissues... I did ask and was told they were expected today but nothing's arrived. I might check out HMV Oxford St later on if I can be arsed. Most likely I will wait until next week now. Don't much fancy the hell that is Oxford St on a Friday rush hour.

Mr James, do you happen to know if the download card included with these reissues give access to lossless versions or is it just MP3? If it's just MP3 I'll probably purchase what Qobuz has. Many thanks.

I don't know. I did just get flacs from the store this morning (due to buying the big box set). Did you order anything from there?

Sorry I meant The London Years reissue LPs... supposedly they will come with a download card. Do you happen to know if that card gives access to MP3 only or have Warners put up FLAC copies? I ask because I don't particularly want to buy The London Years albums off Qobuz in lossless if I'm going to get a copy anyway included with the 3 x vinyl reissues. Seems a bit of a waste. Cheers.

Aah right.

I rechecked the press sheets for these and it does say MP3 versions.

I found the three vinyl rereleases today in a Viennese record shop. No glossy finish parts on the artwork as the original pressings, but looking good. And "get ready" now has a printed inner sleeve! I want that for my original copy too!

Well I ordered all of these new remasters last night, £65 for 7 albums (ouch).

The one I was looking forward to the most (Republic) sounds good; it's had a decent boost in all areas required although this does inadvertently reveal how bits of Hague's production haven't aged quite as well as others. Still, this new mastering is very welcome and I hope it gets a general CD release with perhaps a few bonus tracks thrown in. WFTSC is still a very loud album even with this new 2015 mastering... it's the least changed of the lot and I was hoping the volume would be lowered a bit but it's still fairly heavy. I wouldn't like to comment if there are any real improvements until I've listened further, I think the treble/high-end's been cleaned up a bit. The only baffling thing is the Get Ready remaster seems to have been left off the Qobuz store and I can't find it anywhere else for download. Unless the 2001 version they have is actually the 2015 version but it's not labelled along the same lines as the others.

Anyway, all five of The Factory Years albums have definitely been re-remastered and sound a bit fuller next to their 2008 counterparts. Good bass and lighter bits of instrumentation which were a bit muffled before are more easily heard especially on Brotherhood (!) They are ever so slightly clipped/brickwalled compared to the 2008 versions but not overly so, fans should still get some fine sound out of them. I detect the hand of Frank Arkwright with these although can't be sure as digital files never come with proper credits (a drawback for sure) but it was nice getting lovely large digital versions of the artwork. They look great.

If you're thinking of getting these I would recommend maybe buying your favourite album first and seeing what you make of the sound. Personally, these seem good enough for me to switch over to from previous masterings.

Oh, and I'm not putting up any frigging graphs Big Grin just commenting on how it sounds Cool

I have bought the three re-issues on vinyl. Sirens has definitely been improved compared to the lousy 2005 CD - you can hear Hooky's bass on Turn for example…

Republic looks good to my hears too, but i cannot compare with the original vinyl.

Get Ready is a complete disaster: volume is so low on the vinyl that you need to push volume really up to hear anything… And when you hear anything the sound is muddy and unclear… I wonder if it's an issue with my copy or a general screw up… Has anyone else listened to the new vinyls?

Oh and by the way - only crappy MP3 versions with the 3 releases, not even the 2015 remastered, with Dynamic Ranges from 6 to 8. Forget about these….

Have cancelled my order with amazon.com of the Get Ready and Republic vinyls and re ordered with amazon.co.uk so saving on heavy shipping cost.Except although it said these were released on 25th Sept now i've purchased them it says i won't receive them til mid October grrrr... I was hoping they'd ship immediately and i'd receive them in the next couple of days as i'll be at home and wouldn't have to traipse to the post office to pick up the missed delivery. Was immediately offered the free MP3 download of both albums after completing my purchase but when i go to the download page and select the tracks and hit download the page just freezes and nothing happensFrown Frown Confused Confused

Yeah, bizarre that the MP3 versions are the non-remastered versions - I could have just ripped the CDs! Roll Eyes

So, to summarise, the only way to get the 2015 remastered versions digitally is via Qobuzz/7Digital....

Cool

Considering these reissues were supposed to be out last Friday virtually no record stores I contacted in the central London area had them at the start of this week. I eventually managed to find both Get Ready and WFTSC in Rough Trade East but they only had a single copy each and no Republic. The copies I nabbed were not obviously on display but consigned to the Joy Division rack. The guy at the till couldn't tell me when he'd get more copies of Republic. I rang around HMV, Sister Ray and Sounds Of The Universe on my way home from work and they don't have them either.

Distribution issues aside these also appear to have been given zero promotion - nothing on the official New Order Facebook/Twitter/web site - and with that in mind I'm struggling to see why the label bothered at all, what was the point? You can't cash in on the band's renewed publicity if nobody knows the product you're offering is out there. I couldn't even see anything on Rhino's Facebook page. If you don't visit this forum you'd probably have no idea they existed.

Last but not least I've downloaded MP3s offered with at least two of the reissues and they are the old masterings; I mean come on...

Not great.

They offered these to shops at really short notice (Mon 21st), no promotion but you must order today to get them by the 25th. I guess lots of shops missed out.

I am mystified about the mp3s, how can you tell which mastering it is?

The Get Ready MP3s I got from the vinyl download sound broadly the same as the original 2001 CD. I compared both how they sounded via headphones and how the waveforms looked in Audacity to a FLAC copy I have of the original disc. A mate who nabbed the Republic reissue sent me a copy of the MP3s and I've compared a couple of them to both the original 1993 CD/2015 Qobuz remaster. The Republic MP3s are weird; some of them (World, Ruined In A Day & Chemical) match the original 1993 CD both in terms of sound and waveform. Others like Regret are actually louder than the 2015 Remaster FLAC I got from Qobuz and resemble something closer to the 2005 Singles compilation. At any rate they're not consistent across the set.

Er yeah, I thought the Republic MP3 download was going to be identical to what I got off Qobuz which is actually a consistent, nice sounding remaster.
