Struck me on the early morning commute from South Brooklyn that Singularity is about the following: Ian Curtis; then the pressure Bernard felt having to become the lead singer; then the emotional desert regarding his divorce documented on "Technique"; and other events in the group's career regarding people they have lost. Sonically, that screaming synth noise in the third verse seems to be the battle between man and machine that Bernard alluded to in the Arthur Baker Q&A (an ironically quaint quibble about the DJ vs the musician). Anyway this song is pretty terrific. I think New Order are brilliant at telling a good ghost story, it's kind of an overlooked theme of theirs that stretches all the way back to the beginning of their catalogue.

Don't know what to make of the lyrics but they're pretty good.Isn't "Singularity" the point where humanity is overtaken in intelligence by robots? Or something to do with the universe? Not that that has anything to do with the lyrics- i guess they just came up with the song title on a whim. It's a very Joy Division meets Chemical Brothers kind of track.I really like the drum bit at 3.58 to 4.05.Those final 2 thwaks right on 4.05 Steve hits twice another kind of drum which really tops that off brilliantly. What kind of drum or drum sound is he hitting there? I'm sure i'll know when i'm told...it's really bugging me

Fotzepolitic is right, "the Singularity" is when machines or AI are on the same level as humans.... I think I saw it on a Through The Wormhole episode, It just shows that NO are pretty deep, in a good way.... I love the song, I think its gonna stay up there for me with TPK, and EGG, like, I love the way they can have a song thats very up-tempo and not necessarily a dance track... It does remind me of the Chemical Brothers song Bernard did a few years back, but I think better.... I hope they do multiple remixes of this one... like a even darker version would be pretty sweet as well would one that emphasizes the back ground synth part....

Thought the live version was better than the lp. Especially the drumming. It's too buried in the back.

Transhumanist illuminati agenda - that's what I got when listening to it live for the first time.
