Hey Guys New user here but very long time lurker Just for a bit of fun, I thought I would see what Restless would sound like if Hooky was still with the band. Check it out https://youtu.be/6DcAjCG-U4ILots of other New Order covers on my channel too Not available on You Tube now so PM me if you want to hear it Edited by user 07 August 2015 00:51:36(UTC)

Sounds great!! It does beg the question though , are hooky's bass lines that difficult to play or is he looked upon more highly than he should?? Could be completely missing the point if these are 'electronic' bass lines ( you can tell , I'm no expert!!!) I think live, the song will sound a lot more like your version, and it's great there are 'acoustic' songs on the album and it won't all be like a chemical brothers remix type thing!!! Cheers for the link

That was cool but the song would sound totally different had Hook be on there. A lot more bass runs, and a 2nd line come the bridge |

I'm surprised you weren't tempted to go up a couple of octaves...

Cheers for the link Hooky's basslines have always been pretty simple technically- any beginner can play them pretty easily. His originality was never about the technical complexity though, it was about the effects, the higher register, the legato rhythm, the octave drones, the role of the bass in relation to the other instruments. No one before Hooky had ever really used the bass in a melodic role so it was a really novel sound when JD/NO first came about.

Looks like Warner Bros have done to you what they did to me and thousands of others Not allowed to tread on the toes of the big boys, lest their wrath be poured upon your channel. Now wondering if my New Order uploads from years back will get hit - some (but not all) of my Electronic videos got trashed a few months back since New Order signed to Mute (which is a sub sub sub sub subsidiary of BMG). Now wondering if I should upload any live stuff from Wolverhampton in November? Once that bot picks up key word or note sequence you have generally had it.

Why bother doing this? What is it that you miss exactly, this droning bass sound? I find it the thing that holds New Order back the most - sure it defined their sound early on, but after a long while, it's a ridiculous cliche. And it's boring.

Quote:Looks like Warner Bros have done to you what they did to me and thousands of others Seems a little odd that Warners are behind that, the music in question will be on Mute and published by Universal. Perhaps Google/YouTube should check a little more before removing things? Edited by user 06 August 2015 01:38:11(UTC)

I'm sorry to sound like a grouch about it. I realize it's probably fun to do, so I apologize for raining in on the fun. I just find that the sentiment that his past contributions should always inform the future holds the band back from making new music or being able to progress. That guy's music didn't really progress past the 1980s. Maybe that's why so many still love New Order because they harken back to that sound. I love the past albums, don't get me wrong. But to write new music means moving forward.
