“‘Lonely’ is a very literal tribute to ‘The Perfect Kiss’ by New Order,” frontman Steve Krolikowski tells Yahoo Music. “Among the props you can see an original poster for that video release, which is itself a work of art by Barbara Kruger. That video shows that although New Order were rising on the charts with club hits, they still kept the arthouse aesthetic of bands like the Smiths, R.E.M., and the Cure.
"Like New Order in the ’80s, Repeater has made a transition from dark, angular music to a more immediate and accessible pop sound. Performance videos can be very cookie-cutter, and we felt that a tribute like this would keep an artistic tone while still letting us show our faces and have some fun on camera. It’s a good video on its own, and fans of the original will really enjoy the recreation of shots and sets."
Et voici mes reflexions compilees a ce sujet : Franchement.. Je ne sais pas quoi penser de cette vidéo. Je l'ai matée en boucle samedi et je suis un peu circonspect. Le morceau vaut ce qu'il vaut (pas mal). Mais qu'est-ce qui lui manque visuellement ? Rien d'autre que le talent de Demme et la lumière d'Alekan. Soit juste l'essentiel. En comparaison du film Perfect Kiss, elle fait super cheap. En plus, les musicos se forcent à reprendre les expressions faciales naturelles des membres de New Order (compressé sur environ 4 minutes puisque le clip orignal en fait 9...) ce qui rajoute à la médiocrité et au caractère forcé de l'ensemble. Ils se préoccupent de détails (les gimmicks des visages, encore) alors que, selon moi, c'est l'atmosphère qui devrait prévaloir. Ce n'est même pas une version suédée du clip (ce qui aurait eu plus de sens et m'aurait fait franchement marrer). quand Gus Van Sant refait Psycho, il vient avec une rigueur artistique et des choix forts... Pour moi, ici, ce n'est pas le cas En bref, pour refaire un chef d'oeuvre, il faut avoir les moyens financiers ou artistiques. ce qui désolé, mais n'est pas le cas ici. Et encore une fois, je parle de la vidéo et non du groupe Mais je m'emballe.
