Bill Drummond '45'

Brilliant and hilarious tales of the many establishment goading scams Drummond himself, The KLF, The K Foundation et al got up to

Julian Cope 'Head On/Repossessed'

Two books in one.Head On probably the better of the two.But they are both full of tales of LSD induced madness.Possibly the best music memoir book(s) i've ever read

Wolfgang Flur 'I Was A Robot'

Read this quite a few years ago now but remember Wolfgang coming across as really warm, funny and amiable.A rare insight into Kraftwerk.

John Peel 'Margrave Of The Marshes'

Peel's brilliant sense of humour comes across in almost every page.Utterly delightful.

John Higgs 'The KLF:Chaos, Magic & The Band Who Burned A Million Pounds'

More mind bending tales of the KLF's unique talent for mischievousness.

Bez 'Freaky Dancin' '

A truly inspiring book,actually.

Mick Middles and Lindsay Reade 'Torn Apart-The Life Of Ian Curtis'

This is the best book on Curtis i've read.Quite startling.

Lindsay Reade 'Mr Manchester And The Factory Girl'

Got this for christmas a few years back.By the end i was absolutely devastated that Tony Wilson is no longer with us.

Simon Reynolds 'Rip It Up And Start Again:Post Punk 1978- 1984'

Took me years to get round to reading this but it's good once you get into it.

Simon Reynolds 'Energy Flash'

Currently reading the new updated version of this.Bloody long at 700 odd pages but a great journey through pretty much every genre of dance music from the mid 80s to the present.

The Stone Roses book got reissued when they reformed, i think. I tried to read it long before then, but ended up giving it away. I think if I had read it when I was at school I would have liked it but it just felt a bit...basic or something. Like an overlong NME article with no band input. The BBC 'Blood On The Turntable' documentary (youtube link posted to this forum by me a while ago) was much more entertaining in it's own cheesy way, I thought.

People keep telling me to read Anthony Keidis' Scar Tissue, but I haven't got round to it yet...

Keen on reading this book next.Simon Reynolds' Retromania:Pop Culture's Addiction To Its Own Past'

UserPostedImage

I think Reynolds' key point in the book (though i haven't read it yet) is that music and pop culture these days has become addicted to its past.Endless re issues and remasters , classic albums in full live shows etc etc ad nauseum. There's no, or not enough of, looking and moving forward anymore.I think he may have a good point there.
