Is there any news on the EP New Order is supposed to release by the end of this year? If I recall from an interview they are supposed to start recording this month. And I wonder what ever happened to the 2nd Bad Lieutenant album material?

I think you should add a question mark to your thread title. Thought there was an announcement for a moment...

There's not really any news. I think the last thing that was said about it was it'll still have guitars in it because they're a hybrid band. Before that they said it'd be a purely dance-electronica album.
Yes they're supposed to be recording it now, but they seem to be keeping it quite. Another news point is that they have 10 or so "ideas" for songs but haven't done the main bit of making them into songs. Hopefully they've already finished atleast a couple tracks since they said that.

Would be hilarious if by some freak of nature they had a massive smash hit single ( do people use that term these days? Probably not)with a song from the EP.Like a number 1 chart hit or something.Would be so strange.
But i'm sure that won't happen.
As you were.

As you were. Nah it's impossible. They're too old. Doesn't matter how great it is, it's all about image. I can't even think of the last chart topper by someone who wasn't a trendy 20-something year old.

It's possible after the EP release they could cull one or two of the tracks as standalone releases remixed by someone "hip" from the electronic music scene scoring a potential club hit into the bargain. The mainstream charts are polluted with X Factor drivel these days so is hardly a barometer of "quality" any more. That recent Bowie remix by James Murphy is causing some waves on t'internet at the moment so someone like him would be ideal. My money would be on Stuart Price who alongside his work on the recent PSB electro album he's got previous collaborating with Barney and helping New Order rejig older tracks for live shows.

Electronic new EP? Oh! It's New Order! But it will sound like Electronic without Hooky's bass on it |

I'm thinking that Bernard could play some hooky style bass (or Steve if he knows how) on new recorded material. That way it would still sound like NO and it wouldn't be a new member being accused of copying Mr Hook. Chappers could play it live though. When Peter Gabriel left Genesis and Phil Collins took over the vocals, some said that Collins sounded more like Peter Gabriel than Peter Gabriel...

I'd much rather hear them continue without any Hook-bass. Anything copying it will sound cheap and uninspired...Chapman is a fine bassist, he can contribute his own style to the new material. |

I have the same thinking about how the bass guitar must be played on the new stuff. Tom should do it in your own way as he does on Rubberbear. And I really believe he'll do that.
Julio, I don't belive New Order minus Hook will sound as Electronic because Stephen Morris STILL IS in the band and his drum playing is very distinctive and brilliant to me. |

I believe they will not do anything Hooky-like. I also believe we won't hear anything about the new stuff until next year. :( |

It had Hooky's bass on it and Pottsy's voice sounding like Bernard. |

El Jarvo wrote: Stephen and Gillian were in the Other Two and, for the main, they sounded fuck all like New Order. You can say that without the word 'in'. You're right, they didn't sound much like New order. They were, technically, shite. 20 years for 2 albums of anonymous instrumentals and Bananarama synthcrap with only the occasional gem e.g. Movin' On. Still, better than One True Passion. Hooky's best offshoot is Music for Pleasure, surely? Edited by user 17 October 2013 00:00:42(UTC)

Charts are irrelevant these days.... no one should use mainstream charts as a barometer of quality IMO.
