Chronologically from most recent to their earliest.

Don't ask me why. I normally do not care for music videos, especially music videos by artists before the 90's (with a number of execeptions, i.e. Michael Jackson) but I watched them anyway.
If anything, I learned how hard it is to make a music video without it looking incredibly generic or unsettlingly creepy.

My favorite would have to be "True Faith", which is just so bizarre I can't help but wonder what kind of drugs the director was using when he thought of it.
"Touched by the Hand of God" has the best concept, but it might've worked better for another song.

They almost all left me baffled, but "Round & Round" and "Fine Time" particularly so. I wonder what kind of input the band had in making these videos (or even if they cared too make them at all).

Video for Run is , it goes without saying, the best New Order video. Though i've just said it, thus defeating my claim Confused The video captures the beauty yet couldn't give a fuck attitude of New Order.

The song is possibly the best ever representation of New Order's music and soul.Fuck crap like Blue Monday and Here To Stay.

Though i have just got back from the pub.

I always liked Confusion. Maybe because you actually get to see the band. And it is totally early 80s NYC --

Krafty reminded me of Confusion as well, how it focuses on working folk.

I think that the band had little to no input in most of the videos. Factory didn't seem to want to spend much money. The major label did spend money, but it didn't seem like the band had any interest. Maybe not a great video history, but the Factory era was cool in it's own way.

I wonder if the Love Will Tear Us Apart video had been a little better that it would have gotten played on MTV in America. No vids for Ceremony, Everything's Gone Green, Temptation, Blue Monday... New Order missed out on the golden age of MTV, whether that is a good or bad thing is a matter of opinion.

New Order was perverse, trying to be the opposite of the industry, a big fuck you for conventions. No video for Blue Monday. The Confusion video is a minor classic, a cool snapshot of the era that has aged well. Then the ultimate anti-video for Perfect Kiss, a long live take in the studio with the band being their non-rock star selves.

No videos for 3 singles. Then a more normal attempt at a video for BLT to get MTV airplay, but hardly a great video. Another weird video for True Faith that worked and got played alot. Then the great parody Touched video, which is silly but was fun to see the band take the piss, plus I like how the director mocks music video misogyny with how she edits the film clips. For Blue Monday 1988 the band actually makes a more normal video for once, just for the hell of it. Fine Time is just awful, obviously the director had no inspiration, hell why didn't they just show the Hacienda? Round and Round has some girls, the eye candy got some airplay. Then a cheap video for Run that some find endearing and very New Orderly.

After that the major label took over, and the videos after Republic seem to have zero band involvement... I assume that Bernard said he didn't give a fuck, Hooky probably disagreed, and the rest didn't really want to discuss it.

I love the TBTHOG vid because, well, have you seen it?

But my fave would be Ruined In A Day because its equally mental and twenty years later I still cant decide what the fook its all about. Were they supposed to be on holiday? Had their plane crashed in the jungle? Who can say?

Somewhere I read or watched on YouTube where Bernard said he hated making videos. Had to get up early and was really boring. Probably the same philosophy as the record sleeves. Let someone else do it.

I always thought R&R was the anti-video.

Regret video was like a 1992 REM video, same director yeah.Though i did still like it.

Only single i wished they'd done a video for was Thieves Like Us. Actually, no, i'm glad they didn't do a video for that. They were still from another planet around the time of Thieves and a video would have diluted the mystery/enigma.Cool as fuck really, not doing a video for that one

yeah confusion is great from its kind of documentary style, and mimics what the band said how normally they'd finish something and it'd be months before they heard it, then with confusion they took it down on tape and had it played in the club. and that club footage is an interesting time capsule.

i remember true faith being played at the cinema i worked in as a student about 88, in a feature called 'pepsi presents wired' - wired was a music tv show. the theatre was as 1200 seater, massive screen, made a big impression. utter nonsense of course, but it *looks* like art!

run.. cheap and odd. best thing is the outro with the girl dancing. after a few drinks I just cant help dancing along (even in my chair lol). the great thing is i think the director said 'dont look in the camera' so it doesnt feel twee or contrived, just the movement drives you towards the end.

regret... as the line from the new order story went 'they pretended to go glossy... just to see what it was like'

spooky. really good for 2.5 mins, then runs out of ideas. great bits in it though, like the crocodile heads signifying doubt and madness and the brief slow motion sections.

RIAD... directed by keith allen... nuff said.

world... amazing. well an amazing song as well, and a video seemingly directed by mike leigh. everybody has a character and role and it fits the music perfectly. I've met characters like that on my travels... the clash between the old and young is quite graphic, its made clear that these older people were the same as the youngsters, only 40 years later. top 10 video ever.

krafty.... crap song, crap vid...

waiting for the sirens call.... bizarrely works. but cliched as its a cheap shamburg production (i.e. lets go for a walk) but definately works from the 1st chorus onwards. the part towards the end when the song builds towards the crescendo works really well. and that part with the girl eying him up and down when it kind of breaks into this slightly sped up akward dance. there's just something compelling and apalling about that, makes it very memorable.

(anyone know who directed that? i would love to see other work by them ---

Great! Patti was the proud recipient of my man-milk so I'd edit the last line to 'sneezed me cock snot on Patti.' I'm quite a poet.

Yerse.
I think by 2007 there were official vids for every single except TLU and Subcunture? The best example was Turn which never Turned up (see what I did there?) but had 3 vids and suggested artwank of a Terne (see what they did there?).
