Ireland had Talk Talk? I'm from Ireland and I'm pretty sure we didn't. My apologies. I could have sworn Talk Talk were Irish, but Wikipedia tells me otherwise! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_Talk_(band) |

Cranelane wrote:Speaking of which... The re-release of this in 1990 brings back happy memories.. I had missed out on this song when it was first released so it was new to me at the time.
I was only four when this was first release, and ten on the 1990 Natural History ( the very best of) re-release, so I thought that Talk Talk were a new band then. It was only when my brother bought the brilliant best of on cassette in 1993, and when I looked at the sleeve notes, that I discovered that this single had been originally released in 1984. Talk Talk were therefore only the second band I'd really got into, after the Pet Shop Boys. The only reasons I can think of as to why Talk Talk never had a Top Ten UK single was that most of their other videos were as bad as Depeche Mode's first few, and that Talk Talk's extended 12" vinyl mixes were rushed copy & paste work. I guess Simple Minds' 12" singles were too... Unlike the Confused Instrumental and Shellcock, of course. |

I'd be happy to claim them though. Ireland did however spawn My Bloody Valentine, which sometimes surprises people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My...ody_Valentine_%28band%29

(it featured on my acclaimed homemade mixtape of 1987/88, entitled 'bloody good compilation'. i've probably still got a copy kicking around somewhere.)
*hue and cry. (edit: h&c's 'violently' ALSO has a trumpet solo. i'm going to start a campaign to bring them back.) Edited by user 20 July 2013 10:23:30(UTC)

One of my top five Depeche Mode songs of all-time, and one we should remind ourselves of when we're told our so-called ' world democracy' needs a monarchy...

i've just been listening to two small girls in the supermarket singing "she can't sing, she can't dance, but who cares - she smells like banana". edit: i just had to explain to someone that they were punning on the lyric "she walks like rihanna", from the song by 'the wanted'. now i am worried that i knew this. Stuart Maconie recently did a programme on his Freak Zone show about music in video games and played this.Used to play Resident Evil 2 back in the day when i had patience and time for video games. This was the calming yet eery music when you retreated to the "Safe Room". Relaxing music but tempered with the fact you knew once you stepped back out of the room you were in trouble.

Picked up this CD about 10 years ago even though i only recognised a handful of songs on the tracklist. When i stuck it on though i was astounded i found i knew every song. They all must have lodged in my brain watching the movies as a kid.The guy's a fuckin genius.

This was the intro/walk on music for NO at Jodrell. Reminds me of it blaring out of the speakers as the sun started to go down

So, we come to Goldfrapp again. First offering from new album. I kind of like it but it's a bit Goldfrapp Felt Mountain/ Seventh Tree by numbers isn't it? All the elements are there but ultimately it doesn't quite hit the spot for me.Yet. Alison is looking extremely well. The video was apparently shot at Tottenham House on the Savernake Estate in Wiltshire
