I only had a chance to get my first listen to the album this evening. It will take a few more listens to get a real feel for the whole album but so far, it sounds quirky, brilliant and slightly imperfect but then it wouldn't be New Order if it was any other way.

Restless is a grower, not the best track by any means but a good intro.

Singularity and Plastic are both good and build things up nicely for what is to come.

Tutti Fruiti is absolutely gorgeous. A brilliant piece of electronic pop. La Roux sounds great on this track. The highlight of the album and it could have been a summer classic if they released this as a single last June!

The next highlight for me is Stray Dog. It is Mr. Disco in wolf's clothing. A strange tune but still amazing. The brilliance of Gillian really shines through, no doubt aided and abetted by Stephen and Barney. The dark, repetitive keyboard notes playing under Iggy's vocals is amazing. A really unexpected gem on the album. The remixes could be amazing if they come.

On first listen, the rest of the album falls off a little after that but maybe with a few more listens, those later songs will sound as good as the first half.

I doubted New Order would be able to make an album of this quality without Hooky but they have pulled it off. Has there been another act regarded as an "80's group" that have produced a more relevant album in the last 10 year's? It's current position in the UK album charts seems to indicate that New Order are a band viewed as current and relevant, not just a bunch of old timers cashing in on nostalgia. Maybe the kids new to New Order will be shocked when they see the faces behind the music.
