Hello, I have been listening to The Happy One (well reconstructed bits of it on youtube). New Order The Happy OneAnd I really like that simple synth bass line pattern that it starts off with and basically plays throughout the whole song, (not hooky's parts, I like those too of course!). But I never hear new order do this type of bass line/synth pattern, it is not real dance-y/octave jumping/disco-ish/etc. like a lot of their songs. I was just wondering is it considered somewhat a country music type of bass line? Or is it influenced by another genre? I just love how new order blend styles/genres together and come up with unique great songs. Thanks

It's kind of swing, isn't it? I'd say it's hip hop inspired though.

Interesting post for a change!
it's not a typical Sumner bass line, maybe it was Gillian or Steve that wrote it, it's a great track, and Hooky's part is bloody hard to play!

In keeping with it's name I always thought it sounded like a jingle for a kid's TV show and nothing more.
My guess always was the sequencer backing was written by Steve and Gillian because it sounds a lot like a (very) rough sketch for a theme tune.
Hooky then riffed over the top.
I can see why they chose not to even put it out as a b-side, it's on par with Salvation! Theme which is in the same category for me; bit dull.
