I braved the snow from the midlands and went Friday night. Great night it was too. Really liked the support act modern blondes I think they were called. The church was selling hooky ale and some pretty cool t shirts wi hooky the bass god and then number 9 on the back football style showing the number of bands he's played from stiff kittens to the light, he classes new order as version 1 and 2. The light came on and did a great job of in a lonely place and ceremony. Hooky in my opinion always does a better job of ceremony than Bernard and sings the 1st chorus as well as the 2nd. After a couple of other early single tracks such as procession movement started. The songs sound great live and I,d say its almost guaranteed the current line up of new order will never sing them again so good on hooky resurrecting them because live they are far better than the album, more like the peel session of that time. The tracks sounded really fresh. Then the light came back on stage and did some more early 12" releases such as mesh, cries and whispers and my personal highlight everything gone green. Then we got pc&l. Excellent versions of age of consent and a beefed up version of we all stand. Hooky does not try and sing like Bernard but instead in his own style which does struggle with some pc&l stuff such as the village and particular leave me alone which is one of my favourite new order tracks but does need a Bernard vocal. We got an encore of blue Monday, temptation and hurt which also excellent. Overall n excellent night. The manchester crowd were a bit reserved and I.m looking forward to seeing this again away from manchester when the pressure is off. Hooky did the early singles and movement more than justice. Pc&l is obviously where Bernard comes into his own more and as a result you do miss him from some of these tracks, but well done hooky for keeping these tracks alive as this is my favourite new order period along with lowlife. I would like hooky next to do as his t shirt and do songs from his nine different bands rather thn do lowlife and brotherhood. If he does do them next then great cause I will be there because hooky always surprises and pulls it out of the bag...... No doubts....even here. If you love early new order then do yourself a favour and go and see this, you won't be disappointed.

The vocals from Hook are deep, growly at times, but conveying a passion and urgency that leaves you in little doubt of how much every word means to him. That, coupled with his bouncing, bending stage presence give this whole performance the urgency and, aptly, movement that it might be said is lacking in the ‘other’ New Order’s live performances of the past year. ?

Sounds fantastic when the two basslines get going.
